Maybe the OP should watch this video, But

So then, it looks like what I said above agrees with what the ballistics experts @Federal said in the video.
It's not that 9mm is equal to or better then 40 or 45, it's that 9mm is adequate and bullet selection has improved over the years. That on top of the extra capacity, cheaper, easier to shoot/train with, etc means that it is viewed as the most logical option for people equipping large departments. Does that mean it's the BEST option for me or you? Not necessarily, but it does mean that it's probably adequate for most people.
Anyone who says that 9mm is equal in performance to 45 ACP doesn't know what they are talking about.
Did police officers choose the Ford Crown Victoria as their vehicle for decades because it was the absolute best car available? No! It was a cheap reliable option that met their needs. is 9mm the best handgun caliber out there? No, but it's cheap, reliable, and it meets their needs.
The video is good, but almost every time they advocate for 9mm it's with the caveat that if you shoot 9mm more accurately your fine to stick with 9mm because it's adequate.
Between the handgun rounds none of them provide a dramatic differences from one another, but they never claim 9mm is better. The larger, deeper wound will be better. They mention numerous time that they can get the best 9mm real close to 40 and 45. You know what that means? 45 and 40 are still better. Marginally better, but better none the less.
If you choose a 9mm that's great and it's a good round. With the most expensive premium bullets it's even real close to the average 45 round.
Hasn't the "this v. that" been done to death already?
1. Carry what you want.
2. Get good with it.
It's really as simple as that.
