Which length 27-2 would you get if you could only have one

With a M27 I always liked and owned the 6" version. To me, that is exactly what the .357 magnum was designed for and exhibits its full potential from. Since I am not carrying it around for EDC, the size and weight means little to me. To me, an N frame is just meant to have a 6" barrel.

Another 3 1/2" fan here...

Beings that I already have a 6" no dash 28, would have to say a DEEP BLUE 27 (3.5") Wanted a 27 before the 28, but the pickins were slim. Therefor a 28. Bob

The 5". Skeeter Skelton said that was his favorite. The 3.5" looks nifty-Patton called his "his killing gun" though there is no evidence he ever fire it anger. With the hotter ammunition of his day it might have packed mpre punch. Jeff Cooper noted all the Magna need a long runway to get up to speed. I have a 6" M-28, great shooter, but feels a bit "off" in balance. Though Bullseye shooters always favored the 6" barrels
When Dan Wesson rose again from the ashes some years ago I was able to get a 5" barrel and shroud for my DW M-15, that I like

I still abide by my 1st choice, the 3.5" barrel. However, since many folks here treasure the 5-inch variation, I'll show you mine - maybe harder to find than the blued type. I lucked into this one at a gun show many years ago and I have to admit I like it almost as well as the 3.5"!

I’ll take it!

A 6" barrel for an N frame makes the most sense to me, followed by 4".

An 8-3/8" barreled N frame would be fun too!

Here's another vote for a 5" M27: enough bbl. length for good sighting and muzzle velocity, and short enough to allow carry on the waist band, OWB, without sticking up into your ribs. Good custom grips, would be a requisite as well. Here's a pic of mine. Regards, Rod

I am not going to use discretionary money for any new/new to me guns in the foreseeable future for a lot of reasons. If I were going to do so, the 5" .357 is likely the best of the choices. "Rodfac"'s analysis above is the same as mine.

I think it would be a blue 4” for me but, my use is primarily as an outdoorsman’s revolver for the hills and I got rid of the two nickle (5” & 8-3/8”)model 27s’ because they are a bit worrisome for me to bang around the mountains with and so I prefer the Highway Patrolman and 686s’ that I have, and more realistically, I carry a Glock 20, Glock 35 or a model 29 mtn gun in the woods now lol
