Who carries a Model 66??

Hello, a Model 66 was my secod duty gun with my first dept.

This was in the late 80s before the Wondernines hit the holsters.

Do any of you still carry a Model 19 or a 66?

Particular to the Model 66 with a 2 1/2 inch barrel?

If Oregon gets the nast semi-auto ban, I'm sure that we in WA
state will be restricted torevolvers within a year.

We here in WA though that private sales would never be banned, but
those over on the coast decided for us. I'm hoping the Oregon lunacy
will not go through, nor catch on with the Liberal/Antis in Olympia.

The supply sergeant at my PD issued me a 66-2 2.5" bbl new in the box in 1986. He was a friend and knew we were going to the S&W 4046 brick. He issued it to me a month before the transition. When the PD issued the .40cal we were allowed to buy our currently issued revolver. Best $200.00 dollars I ever spent. The down side was having to carry the 20 pound 4046 wearing plain clothes.

I carried this daily when I was working. I carry it now when I get nostalgic.

I carry a 66 ND with the 2-1/2 inch barrel as shown below. It's the one in the rear of the photo with the no-bark Grashorns.

My 2 1/2 66 was my go to gun for many years.
Lately, I seem to be more of a J Framer.

I have carried both a 2 1/2 & 3" Model 66 but today I find myself carrying a 3" Model 65 or on occasion my Model 60. I use the same Golden Saber +p in all.

I occasionally still carry the newer 2-3/4" 66 in a JMCK AIWB holster. I find it very comfortable and pretty much as concealable as any plastic wonder.

But it is heavier.

I was first issued a S&W 15 and then later got upgraded to a S&W 64. My department didn't believe that we needed anything more than a 38 Special. Hell......we couldn't even carry speedloaders and were only allowed to use dump pouches!

I recently acquired a 2.5", 66-2 that will go into the carry rotation as soon as I decide on a holster.

I feel like my 66-2 is irreplaceable, so I don't carry it any more.

I carry a 2 1/2" 66-5 often when off duty. One of my favorite handguns.

Yes the new 66-8 2.75, used to carry my no dash or Ladysmith 2.5s. Very easy and very comforting with the Hornady Critical Defense 357 load.

I do, I like it in either a Dale Fricke Arch Angel or a JMCK AIWB.

I frequently carry my 66-2 with a 2 & 1/2" barrel.

A Bianchi size 4 holster is comfortable for it. It is a molded fabric type. I do not know the model of the holster and there could be a better size since the barrel protrudes a bit.

My agency had a supply of 2.5" model 19 Smiths that we checked out for plain clothes duty in the late 80s early 90s.i have a 2.5" 66-1 that I shoot occasionaly. I got it for an investment.

I've been known to carry my 66-2 3" on occasion. I also have my issued 4" 66-2, as well as a new 66-8 2.75". If we are ever pushed into a revolver only situation, I would not be unlikely to carry any of these in addition to my J-frames. I wish I still had my 2.5" 66-2. That went to my daughter years ago.

As I write this my wife and I are on a 3 1/2 week trip around the south with our camper. My 66 2 1/2" is always with us and in reach. I carry it in a Simply Rugged Sourdough pancake holster.
As the old saying goes, "up tight and out of sight".

I think I now own the one in the fore ground if I am not mistaken. And I LOVE it .... these are the sweetest revolver ever made ! Hope I am not wrong, BlueRidgeboy can confirm or deny...
