Who else likes Pachmayrs?

The only reaason.....

..that I use Pachmayrs is UTILITY. I don't put them on guns that don't need them in a defense situation. Therefore the only ones I have are on my J frames, one of them an airweight that REALLY needs some cushion.

I surely don't buy them for looks.

Larry, your 586 in the pic must be a very early "No-Dash" since the pic is from 1981............I have it's early "No-Dash" brother with Pach's in the pic next to yours.

Don - You have good taste in revolvers and grips... That 586 is early first year production. Bought it to replace my issue model 66 that I did not care for. Like the muzzle heavy balance for fast DA shooting. Mine has the stamped S&W trademark on the side plate. Later guns were stamped under the thumb latch.

Thanks for the compliment ..... I have a another early 586 No-Dash (serial # AAA62XX) that is a "safe queen" with the trademark on the side plate like yours (I have the original stocks but I like the look of the ones on it). But it's the one with the Pachs that gets carried and shot...a lot.

Years ago my brother lent me a 28-2 to hunt rabbits with.
The next time I borrowed it from him it was wearing a set of Pachmayrs.
He told me they are better suited for what I was using the gun for.

It was still wearing them when he gave it to me back in 2014.



Today it rests on my night stand wearing a nice set of Target stocks.
I still have the Pachmayrs and its original Magnas.

To me they are butt ugly. I would not put them on anything. They are too big and thick. Fitted wood grips are so much better. Life's to short to have to put with fat ugly rubber grips.

I like Pachmayr Presentation Grips. I like the way they look and handle, especially when out and about in the woods/fields walking, hunting, etc. They work really well when at the range. I prefer nice wood grips for looking at, etc. But given the hard knocks grips can get, I use the Pachmayr's and save the wood for the less carried guns. Sincerely. bruce.

On my two Ruger Redhawk .44 Magnums, the Pachmayr Grippers fit my hand the best out of all the grips I've tried. Only gun I use them on.

I keep a set on my 442 Airweight- a little bulkier than the factory grip but I like the way it feels in my hand.

I've never been much of a Pachmayer fan. I do have a few sets though. I have Presentations on my Model 29-8 to help tame the recoil. My Python wears a set of the Colt Gold Medallion factory Pachs because I didn't want to spend the outrageous money on factory wood.
However, my Colt DS and Charter Bulldog have Pachmayer Compacts on them and think these are perfect for these guns.
The Gripper is probably the worst feeling grip I've ever tried to wrap my hand around. I've bought a couple of used guns over the years that came with them. They came off as soon as I got it home.

My favorite rubber grips were the old Butler Creek/ Uncle Mikes versions. Excellent Craig Spegal designs at about $20 a set. I don't like them because they're rubber, but because hey fit my hand perfectly and were cheap. I have a bunch of guns that have these.

I'll admit that they aren't pretty, but they work well at cushioning my bony hands from the assault of 44 Mag loads in my Redhawk.
