Who likes the 3" Model 10's, 13's, 64's and 65's?

I'm really liking this Model 65-5 I recently acquired. The sights aren't great, but the gun handles fast and balances just about perfectly. Anybody else like the 3" fixed sight K-frames?

My 65-5:

Swapped the grips onto my M66 2.5" and put on a pair of Pachmayr's:

The longer Pachmayr grip makes the gun sit better in my hand, and really locks it in during double action fire. My favorite K-frame round butt grips.

Around here the 3" K frames are....... dogs...can't give them away ........ no one really likes them!!!!!!

Sights..... front .... coat of white Testers Model paint...... followed by 2 coats of fluorescent red.

This is a great length on this gun. I have two 3" 64 RB and a Model 10 3" RB. They carry nicely and point very well.

I plead guilty to also being infected with the 3 inch K frame RB disease.

Only known treatment , buy more and shoot them.

O/P, do remember that any rubber grip can trap moisture. It's a good idea to remove them every six or so months and wipe the grip frame with a silicon treated cloth.

That they do. I remove the grips every time I detail clean the guns. Here in Oregon, particularly this time of the year, it is hard to keep the guns completely dry when practicing on outdoor ranges. It doesn't take much for "stainless" to start rusting.

I've own a 3" Model 13-4 that I've had for years. Its my favorite carry revolver.
Picked up a 3" 10-8 just last week. Hoping to get it to the range tomorrow.

I own a 64-3, 65-3, and a 65-5. I had a snubbie 66-2 but sold it. The
3" HB guns feel better to me.

I have managed to acquire a few 3 inch 65s. Four came from a Puerto Rican police dept. They looked like someone put them in a pillow sack and went out smashing mailboxes. All came out nice after dressing out all the nicks and scratches. This one was the worst so to get all the flaws I put it to a buffing wheel. Usually not a polished SS fan but this one does something for me.

The 3" RB K frames are great guns, I have had my 3" M64-3 for 10 years or so and I was lucky to fall into a great deal last year on a nickel 3" M13-3

I was hung on my 3" 66. Now I've started carrying my 3" 65. At defense range I'm more accurate. I find the fixed sights easier to line up more quickly

I had a 65 3" and I loved the way it handled but hated shooting 357 out of it, so I got rid of it and replaced it with a 64 3". It has an interesting history--an LEO friend's friend had it stolen from him six years ago. He replaced it with an automatic, but then the sheriff's office found it and returned it last year.

As he had outgrown his need for the revolver and had no love for it, I traded him a DPMS I had had for a few years (my first AR since replaced with builds). I think he thinks he got the better deal, but ARs are like fleas on a dog, while they don't make many 3" S&Ws.

A 65-3 three inch I picked up at the Lima Ohio gun show. Someone had ground off the front sight and glued on a sight with epoxy running down the sides of the barrel. It had a mismatched side plate. Rear sight channel was notched for an adjustable sight but none present. Notches welded shut. What to do. My local gunsmith made the front sight and attended to the sideplate to make it a perfect match. Cleaned up the welds and checkered the top strap to pretty it up. Slicked up the action. I spent probably 30 hours doing a hand sand and polish job. This was my first 3" K frame and I thought I'd never find another. Total investment on this one $490.00. I have since found and bought 11 more 3" K frames. This one was by far the worst condition one out of all them but is my favorite.

The 3" Model 36 I had really didn't fit a need for me, but the 3" 65's I find more practical.

I really liked a blue 3" M13. I gave it to my then finacee'. When we split up, she declined to sell it back to me.
I consoled myself with a 3" M66-2.


It's a J frame but my 3" M36-1 wanted equal time.


My 3" M624 is begging to see daylight & get a photo shoot.
Like a D*** fool I let my 3" M657 go.

Eddie, I used to have a 3" 66. How common are those? I got mine in mid eighties, dealer said it was a treasury department overrun.

My experience was exact opposite. I had a 3" model 60 and loved it. Let that go and replaced it with a 3" 66. Much prefer the 4" K frame and 3" J frame to the 3" K. Different strokes I guess

Normally I carry a 4" Colt Python or S&W 686 but when I need to carry a smaller revolver my go to is a 3" S&W 65-3. Great little revolver and the perfect size for concealed carry while offering appropriate capabilities for defensive shooting.

I have a 65 worked over and sold as a Smith "Custom Shop" revolver. Best DA trigger I've felt, bobbed hammer and tight fittings.

I'm obliged to answer in this fashion: you don't know how much I paid for the 65, nor how much I sold it for, nor how much I paid for the DPMS. Those numbers would tell you the answer to your question.

THIS must say I have been looking to get a 3 inch k frame for a carry gun for a while but it seems everytime I find one cash is short ,I am hoping against hope that mtruck don't break down, that roof don't start leaking ,dog don't get sick,wife dont find out about girlfriend ,girlfriend don't get pregnant if all goes smooth about last of march first of April lol I'm just kidding I ain't got no dog .

Yes the 3" M65 rb is a great carry. Us grey hairs love them. The younger guys like the compact 9mm bottom feeders
