Why do you need so many guns?

I just reviewed my electronic bank statement this morning. My incredible savings account earns me 0.08 %, that is 0.0008 as a decimal, interest ANNUALLY.

According to GunBroker, my S&W metallic stock account is doing much better than my bank account or Scottrade stock account. :D

Mr. Leno, why do you NEED so many cars? :D

And should Hollywood celebs be allowed to own fast "assault" cars that far exceed the legal speed limits? And whose image appeals to the macho sort of personality, who may try to misbehave in traffic to enhance the owner's male image? What if someone drove one of those cars into a crowd, as has happened, although the media don't dwell on those mass killings like they do gun killings.

I think the answer is that we Americans are entitled to life, liberty, and THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.

To some, happiness is more guns than "needed."

Fine firearms (collecting/accumulating won't go there) in your posession accomplish multiple tasks.

1. INVESTMENT, much like other investments people make but moreso with multiple purpose.

2. FUN. Oh I forgot we're not supposed to have that, or are we? Insert witty remark here....

3. POSESSION. I got it in my hands not in some etherial world where people get rich by screwing-up and I lose investment $.

4. USAGE. Protection, target, hunting, competition and see #1 and #2.

5. LIQUIDITY. Easily legally sold/traded when necessary,
for a higher reason.

6. SECURITY. Nuff said, 'cept I'm preaching to the choir.

7. HERITAGE. Your family firearms you trained and were tutored on. You keep those puppys.

8. The Hymn, Him Him.... well, tell him you have all those guns because this is still a free Country and you can!

Without excuse or explanation, and if you're a Veteran, just tell them so! It's your RIGHT and you fought for it!

I don't own any guns, just meditating.:)

I've actually only been asked that question once; by a highly educated professional who happened to overhear a conversation I was having with her father. When she asked how many guns I had, I replied honestly that I didn't really know...a couple of dozen or so. She looked horrified and asked why I had so many. I said, "I'm something of a WWII historian and a collector. Each rifle represents a unique moment in history; each one has a story to tell; each one honors the men who died fighting facism and Nazism." She paused and said..."I never thought of it that way..." Score one for the good guys.

When my girlfriend at the time told me we were getting married, I told her that I was going to either waste my money on beer and cigarettes or buy guns and if she couldn't agree to it, then we weren't partnering up. 29 years later I still haven't had a beer or a cigarette and we're still married. Whoever said it was a matter of need anyway? At my stage in life it's all about want.

I've been asked this question plenty of times, as I'm sure most of you have. I try not to offer a snarky answer, but it's often difficult. My standard reply usually goes along the line of, "What I do with my money is really no one's concern but my own" or "If you're looking to pass judgment on someone, join a jury" (okay, that one is a bit snarky ...)

So. Why do you need so many guns? Humm

I used to fish ALOT, Bass weekend series, BFL, stuff like that up and down the east coast... Had a guy ask me, why so many fishing rods...
I said, and this applies to the gun thing as well...
Each rod is a tool, designed and set up to do a specific task.
If I had only a handfull, I would limit myself and my abilities in the task of catching fish. while I may only use one at a time...
I have them here, for when and if a situation presents itself.
I would hate to think of the outcome, If I limited myself to only a few options... Seems to sum it up for me...

Its not worth dignifying with an answer. My money, my decision. On occasion I point out we have nice cars, a roof over our head, and some savings. Enough, in other words. Its better not to divulge too much to others. None of their GD business, to be exact. And I've used stronger terms.

Libtard,

Q...Why so many guns?
A...I like them.

My turn,

Q...Why do you breed?
A...

Snarky enough?

I've used the above many times, to great effect, when asked why I
have so many canoes. We now only have 10, down from 14....

I have had few golfers go any further than a thoughtful,
oh yeah.?.?.? when I've asked them "the question."....;)
\

I see no problem with 10 canoes.
You can never tell when you may need to build a pontoon bridge.

I own two handguns...and four rifles. Each have their own specific purpose that the others can't accomplish. I CC one....steel plate one....and the rifles are used in various hunting seasons.

It's not a matter of need,it's a matter of desire for them. If I can afford them then no big deal, right ?

Hmmmmm

A good question. I grew up with them. Learned to shoot at a very early age. Couldn't hit a baseball to save my life. Still can't. (Love the game though).

The only two things I was ever really good at were shooting and my mechanical abilities which helped in the gun hobby.

Law enforcement occured as an hand in hand thing that became my career.

I have been asked the question, several times.

The answer: It's what I do.
:D

Assuming we concede the validity of the question [a stretch, as the word 'need' is a value inquiry, with implicit negativity], I look on arms as a conversion of assets and as a stabilizing factor in one's property ownership.

That is: rather than holding assets in some other form - e.g.: cash, CDs, coins, furniture, art, real estate, various securities...., we hold some in articles that give us pleasure. The pleasure of recalling good times with earlier owner/custodians, learning, using, admiring, sharing, fixing, experimenting, etc.. Such variety in ownership is an incident of freedom, won by sacrifice and eternal vigilance.

Regards,

Dyson
