I've been asked this question plenty of times, as I'm sure most of you have. I try not to offer a snarky answer, but it's often difficult. My standard reply usually goes along the line of, "What I do with my money is really no one's concern but my own" or "If you're looking to pass judgment on someone, join a jury" (okay, that one is a bit snarky ...)

It's easy to be a wise-acre, but that doesn't serve the purpose of being diplomatic in the face of anti-gun sentiments. What are some of your more cordial responses?

I don't need that many guns- I want that many guns & can afford them & maintain them. I usually just tell them how many holsters I have & they walk away shaking their heads.

why do coin collectors, stamp collectors etc have so many of thing that interest them. Because each is unique. Different size, caliber, finish, maker or model. Also different uses. Can't bullseye shoot with a 12 ga and can't trap shoot with a pre 29. At least I can't. And wouldn't I look silly with my 43 Winchester M1 as a concealed carry gun!

I need something to fill up all that empty space in the safe.... guns work good for that.

It's not the guns, it the number of holsters to put them in that's the problem! You know you are in trouble when you have more holsters than your wife has shoes!! Who knew?

I don't NEED them. I just want them. Alternate answer: (if I've been drinking) You think thats wierd do you? Well DO YOU?! When the mutant Commie zombies from beyond the galaxie get here you won't think it's so wierd! You'll be on my front porch whinning like a little girl and scratching at the door. Are you wearing a wire!!!!

Guilty on all counts here. I've got coin, stamp, firearm, snowboard, guitar, backpack, camo, cases, holsters collections... Is brass by caliber a collection? I can not sell my house because it is the cheapest storage for my collections that I can find...

I avoid answering directly. Admit to nothing. Less said the better.

Need?

Since when is anything based on NEED?

I've got a good job and don't owe nobody nothing!

I spend my money on guns , tools and my Harleys.

And like that great blues song goes,

"Well I don't NEED nothing but a whole lotta leave me alone!"

I asked a Golfer once why he needed so many clubs in his bag?

I've used the above many times, to great effect, when asked why I
have so many canoes. We now only have 10, down from 14....

I have had few golfers go any further than a thoughtful,
oh yeah.?.?.? when I've asked them "the question."....;)
