Why do you need so many guns?

It's not a matter of need but a matter of desire I desire to own more than one gun so when i have some money saved up i use it to buy another gun for my collection.

Maybe a return of a real nasty insult would work, too. Ask the person if they really need 4,000 calories a day, and if they don't, why have they been taking that much or more in for the last 20 years. Kind of a presentable way to insult their weight (but only if they look flabby.)

And then the more upsetting question, why don't I even know how many I have? We moved just over 2 years ago, and I still have at least 2 guns missing. Yes, I've looked. Then I searched. Then I even asked my youngest so if I gave them to him. He said no, he'd have remembered that. So in my answer that you have no right to know, should those 2 be included or excluded?

We all get asked the question from time to time. I'm rapidly coming to the opinion that its not a proper question to ask....its just none of their business.

Dick's right ya know!

It's just plain bad manners to be askin' questions like that.

Kinda like askin a feller how much money he has...

Or askin' a rancher how many cows he got...

Or a farmer how much land he's tending...

Or how many difficulities a feller may have been in....

Gees.

If'n sum baffoon starts quizin' me about how many of this or that,

I jest come back with:

"Are ya still beatin that ol dog of yours?"

And kinda loud so everyone in ear shot can hear. ;):D:rolleyes:

You could always tell them:
"I need that many guns for the same reason I need a lot of beer: to help me to deal with rude people". I don't expect you'd get many more questions.

Q1: How many guns do you have?
A1: How often do you have sex with your spouse? or One less than too many.

Q2: Why do you need that many?
A2: It's not a need, it's pure want.

Gotta spend the extra money on something, otherwise the wife finds honey do projects around the house!:eek::eek:

Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever been asked that question.

My gun owning friends understand. My other friends don't think about it.

My 1st wife once asked me to pawn some guns. Hence...1st wife as in "ex." I don't sell guns. I did once and have regretted it ever since then. Prices only go UP. You can't get it back as it was before.

Current wife...she knew before we were married that guns were a part of our life. Accept it or go away. She stayed.

Now I have a different problem. Whenever I buy a gun, I have to buy two. She has her own collection. She's going through the reserve deputy academy soon and now wants pink handcuffs.

I've created a monster. Although....the handcuffs could be fun. ;)

I always answer" why does Jay Leno have so many cars"?
Guns have been a passion, since an early age. Not only owning them, but shooting them.

I look at going to the Range. About the same way some of my friends look at Golf. Yes, it costs some money. Nobody is starving at home.

It is something I like, pretty good at, and fun.

Then they usally ask if "I will take them sometime"?
I always say "sure".

Most never go.

Kinda dumbfounded by the question. When you have an addiction need is not in the equation. I sold one gun last year. Got the shakes doing it. Replaced it with something else but I didn't have the sold gun anymore. I got offered ridiculous money for it but I'm still jonesin. Now I feel bad again.:( And what's "so many"? If there's a limit I'm in trouble big time.

Why do you need so many guns?

A loaded question.
It presumes you think you "need" them and it pre-judges that you have "many."

A proper question would be:

"Why do you have the number of guns that you do?"

My answer would be:

"Because I can't figure out how to sneak a second safe into the house."
