Why does a Gun Forum need to be CHILD-friendly?

Lee,

Excellent post. I watched Charlton Heston's monologue with great admiration, and I thank you for posting it. I'm going to forward the link to many of my friends.

I have sinned on this board from time to time, had my wrist slapped, and in fact really appreciated that it happened. I tend to be vocal about my political beliefs, and my language when employed against "political correctness" tends be salty from time to time because of those strong beliefs. Among adults, face to face, this is fine. But you are right. This board does indeed set a high standard for conduct for all the reasons you mentioned. This is the best-run firearms board on the internet, and the moderators' monitoring helps insure that it stays that way.

Lee, you extended me favors at the SWCA meeting in Tucson, and I learned to appreciate you as a true and honest gentleman. I'll watch my mouth here out of respect for you and all you are trying to accomplish on this board with your time and money. Slap my wrist any time if I get out of line, and keep up the good work.

Best regards,
John

Lee,
I would like to SECOND what "John" wrote. I find myself having to use some restraint sometimes , but it just takes a little longer to type.

Well said Lee, all forums of any subject should strive to be like this one.

I for one find it very refreshing to come here and see no profanity, I hear enough of that at work.

Can't you let me cuss Burg... just once? :-)

GF
No.
We could never get it stopped, and I'd lose my own willpower.....
:D

Thanks for all the kind words, gents.

I think the title of this thread should have been:

"Why I enjoy this Forum so much and why I look forward to coming here every day to learn, contribute, laugh and banter with fellow members..." I could be wrong.

The OP may have had to penalize himself for breaking rule #24 - "An extremely long title name for a thread will not be tolerated".

There is a lot of apparently nice folk here on this forum and unless proven otherwise one must treat them with respect. That's the way I expect to be treated and do the same with other's. My Dad taught me this and it's one of the few thing's that stuck!

100% behind handejector on this. There's a long-running thread on another forum not far from here that's basically soft-core porn.

The gun community has enough image problems without that.

Okie John

I have a few guns am retired and probably won't buy many more. But I
do enjoy the different boards . the knowledge is amazing, the wit and writing ability to tell a story is wonderful. I wait for some of the posters to post and the pictures are great. The antique section is great, even though i don't own any i can appreciate them . Lee please keep the forums as you have and thanks to all the Mods. I kinda liked the gorillas approach to running the forum.

I too am 100% with Handejector on this.

I see nothing wrong, and everything right with expecting everyone to remain "civil and friendly" on the forum.

We can post about our different experiences, and disagree on our opinions, about things, but we should do it in a friendly manner.

I am usually surronded by my daughters while iam on the computer so child friendly is always good. I have been on other gun forums that are not so friendly and I stopped going to them.

I like being able to sit at my desk surfing the forum and not have to worry what my wife or kids would think if they happened to be looking over my shoulder...

It's a great forum and I really appreciate not having to wince at bad language. I think it's important to set a good example for anyone else who might be looking in.

I respect the fact that the administrator has invested time & treasure in this great forum (which I visit every day) but OTOH treating adults like they need constant supervision seems a little absurd to me - maybe a child-friendly gun forum should be a new category so that those that desire that will only visit that area with their kids/grandkids.

Personally, I'm interested in buying some hardware and learning (and maybe some fun) but not via a "Martha Stewart/Oprah" mentality.
