Why hate the lock?

Geez! Anyone want to talk politics or religion?

"Not every Muslim is a Jhaidist. But, every Jhaidist is a Muslim."

Both my 649 and MP9C came with the lock (no such issue with the 22A). I have never touched it and don't plan to. Not particularly paranoid, just don't see any reason to go there. Am I missing something or is there a serious gremlin waiting (a la Murphy's Law), to bite me on the ass someday when I reach for my gun in a serious hurry?

I may be the only one who hasn't put you on ignore.

LOL. You "internet keyboard tough guys" crack me up. Do you think it bothers me if I'm put on ignore? LOL. That just means fewer trolls for me to deal with. Now, tough guy, don't go beat your wife and kids because you're mad at me, now....or kick the cat. I know that you get frustrated because you don't have a legitimate answer for anything.

I feel that having the lock on your revolver, could add extra liability to the gun owner, what if the gun was stolen, and used in some sort of crime. The fist thing some DA is gonna ask is...... Was it locked? no, Now its your fault, I see the lock as a liability gun owners do not need.

Has S&W ever officially responded to the reports of lock failures?

i have observed that IL guns seem to have a harder time selling and sell for less in similar used condition. anyone else notice this?

Rich

Well, I read MOST of the posts on the above link, thanks.

I don't care at ALL about the asthetics issue. I just want the gun not to fail, ever.

For example, I shoot a hundred rounds or so through it before I put a new magazine in my load out line up for my Commander. I'm looking for reliability.

A question for you guys that carry: wold you recomend having the lock deactivated?

Any liability issues that may come up later?
I love my 686+ with the 2-1/2" barrel. It has the internal lock. I have shot it quite a bit without any locking problems but always had the lock on my mind and the reports of failure I had read. I finally opened it up and deactivated the lock for peace of mind. I do love that gun. I'm not worried about liability issues and feel much better about carrying my gun now.

Above everything else, I just hate the looks of em'.. If they would of put it under/below the hammer or on the backstrap or somewhere inconspicuous I'd be able to stomach them better. But as it is it's smack dab in the middle of the side, like a sore thumb sticking out.. I have however seen a very good compromise by one of our members "Flat Top".. He designed a SS plug that fills the hole, after the lock has been removed, and the end result is very nice!

I really don't understand how the little plug that fills the little hole looks prettier than the little hole that was the lock.

Shhh! That's the only really GOOD thing about the lock!

You're right. They screwed up the graceful lines of the frame and engraved an arrow in the frame around the hole. But, if properly ground down, the plug is almost flush and is still better than a hole in the frame.

I agree with JamesLoren, the lock is a no win situation.
