I check in every day to see Snubby drink a beer and smoke a stogie. Wait...is that the correct spelling for stogie?

And to catch a sardonic quip from Rusty. Some day I may even learn what sardonic means.

Or to follow the hockey playoffs with Labworm...as the Blues lose in the playoffs again...and again...and again...and...never mind.

Or to provide some support to other forum friends that are hard against it.

I can read about information anywhere, but I will not find it with this kind of interaction and entertainment. Joining allows access to forum resources that enable members more opportunity to interact. I originally joined to find out more about a Model 19. Since that date years ago, I have found more value in being a part of this forum than just the value of a revolver...as long as I stay away from jokes about a certain topic that gets immediate attention from the boss silverback.

I don't over analyze it. I generally don't possess the faculties to do so. After all, I'm the guy balancing a golf ball on his head.

Many people just want to find some info on a specific gun. They join, search, find what they were looking for and done

I have to say I am guilty of doing this at times. I have crazy schedule and am taking on-line courses these last three years to get my degree. You all have been very helpful and I do appreciate it. I spent a lot of time on the 1911 forum helping others there as well and posting.

One thing I can pass on to everyone is to use silicon spray like you use on the belts of your car when they squeal. Really does work great. I used it by accident 5 years ago. I buy it in big cans from Ace Hardware. It's the best stuff to clean with. Try it you'll like it. It cut my cleaning time in half and I am PICKY.

I look in most everyday but don't post. I am the sort of a person that if I don't have any thing worthwhile to contribute then I don't post. I have also like to read a lot and learn. I have gained vast knowledge on this and other boards by just reading.

Karmas. I won one last week and am offering one up now. If I get another model of S&W I know I have access to a vast reserve of knowledge. Plus I just like to read the posts in the lounge. Sometimes in the Want to Buy. Relaxing at the end of the hard day of being retired. Soap operas wear me down.
Peace,
Gordon

Actually this is typical of most online forums. I joined this one to find info about my K-22, but I come back frequently to read the forum and learn more about S&W because I find it interesting. I post occasionally (but not often) when I feel I have something to contribute.

However, I am a member of a about a dozen boatbuilding and boating forums. I post frequently on about half of those because this is my area of expertise. The other half I look at but only post occasionally when something comes up that I have knowledge of. It just simply takes a lot of time to keep track of all of them so I picked what I think are the best of the lot and those are the ones where I am active.

But all of those forums have the same kind of levels of participation vs membership. As was said most people join to ask a question, then they may never come back, or they lurk. There are some forums I do a lot of lurking but almost never post. It's a way to learn.

Some firearms forums won't let you see the pictures unless you join. I'm a member of one for that reason.

I was a moderator on a large weather site where you must join to ask a question or post a comment and they found out that many people join a forum to ask a question and after its answered they don't return .. they finally programed the site where a members name that is inactive for 6 months is deleted ..

I would believe that this forum has many members that are here for similar reasons .. they have a question about a certain firearm and after learning the information they are seeking they don't return ..

I joined because I wanted to use the forum search feature. Simple as that.

But as these S&W's are slightly addictive, and you guys are often entertaining, I like coming to this board frequently.

someone is keeping track of my posts?
do i get points?
can i win a toaster?
you guys get that my posts are just my normal inane chatter, right?

oops, i just saw that my post count is listed accross from my name.
guess i should have known, but i don't look there. i just read stuff.
You don't want points! Trust me. Points are bad here.

I enjoy my time here and would never have guessed I would spend as much time here as I do. Huge amounts of information, pictures, etc.,are available for free! Reduced my Nook book bill substantially. The people are what make it what it is and I thank the administration for the structure.

Many had much for post credits before the post cleansing of the late 2000's. I know I lost over 10,000 posts.

Hope it didn't have to do with the March 14th massacre.

Why join? - A curiosity.

.... I noticed that a lot of members don't actually post.

There are 186,043 members ........
69% of the membership .. never or hardly ever participates.

Is this why we have such troubles...? Am I over-thinking this?

You are not over-thinking the situation.
Just a theory, but perhaps that 69% is here for our precious bodily fluids?

I joined when I purchased my first S&W rifle and I had a few questions that I needed expert help in answering. A number of what I would guess are "forum regulars" went out of their way to engage my thread and provide their insight. As a relative noob to the world of firearms I feel like there isn't much for me to add content wise to this forum so I end up doing a lot of lurking.

Im also on a guitar forum where I feel much more comfortable providing content because I'm just more knowledgeable in that topic. As my knowledge and passion for firearms grows, I hope to be able to more actively participate.
