Why S&W?

Ruger Nut. Please dont be defensive, sometimes people dont read exactly what was said. As I stated before the Colt name makes S&W fans touchy. It is not meant personally, have a great day and keep smiling.

Ok. :)
I missed that post yesterday.
Maybe I should change my SN to "COLT NUT" instead or RugerNut. :D
Honestly, the ONLY time I have ever shot a Colt was in the military. ;)

Where in my OP post did you see me compare the S&W to a Colt?

I am sorry you took my post confrontational, it was not meant to be. I was just stating that our thoughts would be clouded as we most likely own the S&W model. It is human nature to think that the brand we bought would be the better one, no one wants to admit they bought the lesser of the makes of anything.

Again I appolagize if I offended you in any way.

It's all good. I just want to know the facts about the S&W so when all those impulse buyers get their CC bill and momma makes them sell,I want to be prepared to pounce! :D

Of all the AR/M-4 choices out there why did you choose a S&W? I shot my fair share of M-16A1 & A2's in the military. We used Colt & H&R.

It is strange isn't it, but I have seemingly without thought carried the same firearms our local law enforcement carry. The Clearwater PD used both the M&P 15 and M&P Handguns plus I know of guys in other departments who also carry the M&P 15 as their duty rifle.

A guy who I went through Instructor school with also builds AR's but LOVES the S&W I picked up. It's just a really well built rifle IMO. I enjoyed years with my M&P handguns and would expect the same out of the S&W AR

Pounce hard....although I do believe that for a little while there are going to be a bunch of overpriced rifles on the market until the realization hits that they are underwater on their purchase. The time for buy low and sell high is past. I was looking at a website that does free ads and you can sell your guns on it. It is nationwide but only shows you the stuff within a 100 miles of you. I saw tons of Stag Arms and Windham weaponry Sporting rifles, a couple of Colts but no S&W's. They were selling lowers and complete lowers but still no S&W's. The prices were still high but lower than just 2 weeks ago.:D:D

Don't worry. I have a Sig 229 and they still let me keep coming back. :)

Well, it get's worse! My other handgun is a Ruger Blackawk .357.
In my defense I did buy my daughter a sweet model 60 .357 and myself a P229 (which I sold). Her fiancee at the time had gunaphobia and didn't want her to keep it. I wanted her to get her CHL. Gave to my son and the dummy traded it for a Glock.

I'll see your Ruger Blackhawk and raise you with my AMT Hardballer. I got it new back in the mid 80s when I was too underpaid to afford a Colt 1911. :o

I do own a 6" S&W M29-3 which I also bought new in the mid 80s. In the past I also owned a nickled M29-2 and a M28, both of which I sold in the early 80s to buy a car. :(

Grant, not to start an argument, but I would consider the Melonite and 5R rifling to be major upgrades over the TDP.
I have posted engineering studies that show Melonite to far surpass Hard Chrome or Chrome in general in every way except cost of production.
5R rifling is now being offered in top tier bolt action rifles from other manufacturers, not just T/C. Remington is the first one that comes to mind.
I am now doing some trigger polishing jobs for friends on S&W, Bushmaster, DPMS and Colt Rifles. Out of those manufacturers S&W seems to take a little more pride and precision in their FCG's than the others with better and more complete machining.
As I said earlier I really do not want to get into an argument but these items appear to exceed the TDP to me. :D

This could be true (to some). To others, it is not. So this more personal preference than anything.

S&W is making more and more LPK components in house and I think they are doing a good job with them.

When we compare one brand of AR against another, one part might be a better fit for you, but the gun (overall) might be lacking compared to the other one. So I think it is important to view the AR as a COMPLETE package and rate that. Make sense?

Grant on most rifles that makes perfect sense, it really does. On these rifles which are modular and actually built so that when you wear them out your can replace the worn out part and keep on going, I think not so much. I have rifles that I have had for years and years. Shot frequently and have yet to replace a part. For the most part other than the barrel and the BCG these are all the same. So in the end it comes down to performance. The people that I shoot with all have other "name brand" rifles. They all aspire to achieve the accuracy I do. It is not just the accuracy that I have while shooting, it is the accuracy they have while shooting mine. This is my opinion but it has been based in comparisons with other rifles. Including the Colt. :D

Is that a Colt rollmark on there as well as the H&R name stamp??
I can not make it out clearly on my computer. Please, if anyone can see the rollmark, what is it?

I bought my Sport because of the price, $619.00 + tax. But I read all the reviews by owners that I could find before I bought mine. The thing that really impressed me was the accuracy of the Sport. Mine shoots .65 in groups at 100 yards with decent ammo. The lifetime warranty and S&W reputation for building excellent firearms was a added plus.

I just bought a S&W 15-22 and I'm very happy with it also. The same great build quality as the M&P 15. S&W is hard to beat for the price.

Curious! I have been browsing gun auction sites and am seeing Bushmaster M-4's selling a lot cheaper then others. ($800-$1000) Why is this? These prices are in line for what WM was selling them for.

I had about 2 grand saved up for an AR last year, had been doing a lot of reading, a lot of shooting, and a lot of making up my mind and changing it. The sport had rave reviews of reliability and accuracy, plus the lifetime warranty doesn't hurt.

Came across a sale for the sport, so I picked it up (629 + tax in CA). I was very impressed with the quality of the rifle (very impressed)! The finish is better than most that I have seen (kind of a matte black) and it has been just as reliable as all the reports that I have read.

I have shot other brand AR's and some that I have shot have been way better dealing with the recoil impulse, but the sports recoil isn't bad at all, just a little snappy and it doesn't bother me at all, and really the AR's that I have shot that feel a little less snappy have been midlength gas systems!

Two friends of mine have recently purchased AR's on was a Noveske, the other bought a DTI. Both of then have had trouble with getting their mags to seat properly, and the DTI was having a little trouble feeding at first, but I think both of them have gotten it worked out now.

I'll probably get booted, but I think for the most part just about all the AR's out now are good quality & will last the normal guy a lifetime.

I own several AR-15's & a AR-10. Only two of them are S&W but they are .22's...I like them all...

you wont get booted and welcome, but when you want to step up to an accurate sporting rifle get a s&w m&p15 with the 1:8 5R barrel. until then your just old school..plus our rifles arent AR's they are neither colts nor armalites.

Thanks for not giving the boot, LOL!!!

I've shot the M&P, it's a sweet rifle & I agree accurate...I'm not the it's a Colt or nothing guy, don't have one of those either...The favorite of the ones I own is my Sig 516.

Price and availability. And it had a carry handle and an "oar" buttstock. The only desirable features missing were a bayonette lug and threaded muzzle.

What I have is a Modern Sporting Rifle. Smith&Wesson MP15 if anybody asks.
