Why would I want a hybrid car?

Man, take it easy.....

I am SO tired of the handwringing related to anything that hasn't been around for at least 50 years! I love my plug-in-hybrid Prius. I spend virtually nothing on gas.

The EV haters like to tell you how the manufacturing of these vehicles generates 60% more gasses than ICE vehicles. What they ignore is that within 2 years of normal use, you've offset that deficit and from there on you're all positive.

By all means, continue to spew carbon.

Ya, I'm probably out of here. And many, probably most of you, will probably rejoice because you don't do well with anyone who doesn't completely share your views. So much for brothers in arms...

I'll change my mind when there is a clear advantage, right now it seems disadvantageous in many ways to go electric. Carbon is being produced at power plants that charge electric vehicles. The infrastructure isn't there to handle it. It takes hours to charge a vehicle. When these are rectified, I'll change my mind. I don't like Hillary Holes in revolvers but I'm thinking about putting in a bid on one because it would be advantageous to me if other people DON'T want it because of the Hillary Hole.:D

My daughter has a ford plug in hybrid car. Something has gone wrong with the electric motor or battery, something with the system. Anyway they told her they have no remedy to fix it. She’s driving around with a hybrid that she can’t even use the electric portion of the car and they have no fix and apparently none in the near future. I actually feel sorry for her, she thought she was doing the right thing when she bought it.

I'm too old and hard-headed to change from gas / diesel trucks. If you live in the country, there's no logical choice for now. But, who knows, I might go EV - Right after I buy a Glock.

It's why I won't do another domestic vehicle more than it is any technology.
They claim to have built it, but they cant fix it.
Don't know about you, but that tells me they never actually built it.
I'm not entirely sure who id go to for such a vehicle. My instincts tell me to turn an eye to either Germany or Scandinavia. Leave our own to under performing ICE and hard automotive lessons.

Have Ford said there will be no fix ever, or is it that they haven't come up with a fix since the recall started 30 June this year? I'm assuming this is the Ford Fusion plug in hybrid.

They told her at this time they have no remedy to fix the problem and they can’t say if or when they’ll have one.

.they are going to end up taxing electric cars more for wear and tear on the highway???

They already do here in WA. I also get the joy of paying an extra $75 "Overweight" fee. (Guess it's all those heavy batteries)

Still I'm on my second Prius (17 years) and will get another if I wear this one out.

I'll pass that on to my gf in Bellingham, whose 2002 Honda will probably have to be retired in a few years. But she will almost certainly opt for a hybrid, as you did.

It's all about weighing compromises and deciding which you can best live with, depending on your needs and lifestyle.

In my state, and I suspect many others, gasoline taxes pay for highway maintenance. Vehicles that use no gasoline are basically getting a free ride, so yes, some means has to be created for the owners of those vehicles to help pay for the infrastructure they're using.

Hyundai CEO discusses alarming electric vehicle trend

Interesting... although a bit contradictory. Increased sales, yet less consumer interest??? Article here.
"... In our [Hyundai] case, we continue to increase our sales of EVs dramatically," Munoz said, noting that Hyundai is experiencing "double sales" of its EVs every month, compared with the year earlier.

"It is true that we don't see the industry growing as fast as we thought it would be," he added. "The demand is not as high as expected." Muñoz noted that Hyundai is also seeing "fantastic growth" in the sales of its hybrids, indicating that the mass market is not yet ready for full electrification.
Article continues:
...Hyundai and Amazon set a partnership Muñoz's comments came in the wake of a new partnership, announced Nov. 16 at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show, between the carmaker and e-retailing giant Amazon.

Beginning in 2024, consumers will be able to purchase Hyundai vehicles in the U.S. through Amazon. Amazon's cloud division, Amazon Web Services, has likewise become Hyundai's preferred cloud provider, working to build the Alexa voice-controlled virtual assistant, into Hyundai's next-generation vehicles...
Er, no thanks. I guess those articles on the non-existant privacy in new cars are not so far-fetched.

Toyota is smart. No EV's in their lineup. Their best selling sedan,
the Camry is going to be all Hybrid starting with the 2025
model.

And GM has no hybrids in their lineup, unless you count the low-volume sort-of-a-hybrid Corvette E-Ray. What does that say about them?

They have committed entirely to battery EVs. They either have some slick battery tech up their sleeves, or they're dumber than a large box of rocks.

I won't even consider an EV or hybrid until they can come up with a way to recharge (refuel) your vehicle just as fast as it takes to fill your gas tank on a conventional gasoline powered vehicle!

technology exists to make it close enough.
I expect to see it roll out of Germany first. Our band of lost automotive puppies won't touch it for at least 15 years after.

Warren Buffet dumped all his GM stock. If we discussed it, it'd likely be a 30 second exchange followed by a nod of agreement.

Why would I want an EV or Hybrid?
I don't want either and since I'm 80 years old, I will never buy either one. I like my 2013 F150 with the V8 in it, and also our 2022 Honda Pilot Touring.
