I do not want to take anything away from the horrible tragedy that took place today at Lone Star Community College in Texas, BUT, it just seems to me that mentally ill people will carry out their dastardly deeds with whatever weapon that they can get their hands on. Outlawing guns, or knives or crow bars, or axe handles, etc. is obviously not the answer. Reform in the area of the treatment of mentally ill persons is our only hope!

We will know if he will move to outlaw knives if he invites the families of these victims to take a flight aboard Air Force One.
But I doubt it. (Unless there'a a later Coroner's report that ALL the victims were stabbed with An AR-15 Bushmaster Bayonet with the thing that goes up on the shoulder.)

Jesting aside, any (mass or single) assault is a tragedy and should not be used to dance on graves and forward one's political agenda.

Nothing would surprise me; a story in the London Times detailed their byzantine knife laws (perfect match to their gun laws), where a homeowner defended himself against a violent and armed intruder who just happened to break in and enter said abode. The homeowner stabs the creep with a kitchen knife, gets arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, and gets sued by the well known one man crime wave. You'd think there would be a Castle Doctrine in merry 'ol England, given the number of castles in that once powerfull, and now failing empire.

A background check would have prevented this. We must follow the English and outlaw all knives with sharp points. They all must have rounded tips to prevent this type of thing.

Read about that terrible tragedy this afternoon and you have asked a good question.

I can see it now, the next time I go into Hobby Lobby to buy a pack of No. 11 blades for my X-acto knife I will have to show my CCDW license and drivers license while waiting on the background check to be done.

There will also be a limit in the mag... I mean pack... :)

He would if he could. As stated, it has been done. Fools never give up. I see where PETA wants to employ drones? Shoot them down would be the choice here. Idiots all, but they are slowely but surely removing our rights, including the right to defend ourselves. Glad I picked up a 300 blade pack for my matt cutter last year. :)

Naw, obama ain't gonna ban no assault knives... Can't resist tyranny with one of those. :)

How insightful... and more to the point NO KIDS WERE MURDERED in that cowardly attack! BTW; how many 2A patriots really believe that their weapons will have to be turned against their fellow Americans in some video game nightmare scenario?

OH! That many?!
How sad.

Buddy old friend,a good post. The ground work is already being laid by the TSA's recent good knife-bad knife list.Smooth handle=good, finger grooves=bad,folder=good,non-folder=bad etc. In the recent publication.
It is interesting,on a historical note that until the invention of Colt's revolver the Bowie knife was the deadliest close quarters weapon and due to it's popularity and widespread use many states outlawed both Bowie Knives and Arkansas Toothpicks.A few years ago I studied this subject and was amazed how heavily armed citizens were.Sometimes carrying two or three single shot percussion pistols and two knives.Life was exciting and ceap in those days.

And all this time I've been thinking at least they can't take away my knife.........Oh ****. Now I'll probably have to put an IL on my folding Buck knife.

Four words: no way in hell.

He's not going to "outlaw" guns either. I don't understand how people can seriously think he or anyone else could get that to fly. Or enforce it if they seriously tried.

Politicians are realists. At least most of them are. And this isn't the UK.

Not yet, but we're more then half way there. ;)

I hear Brownell's has a six month backorder for X-acto knives.

I figured the President would use this attack in his effort to get more gun control. After all, none of his other proposals would have made any difference in the past three massacres.

All kidding aside, I am glad to hear that no one was killed and I pray it stays that way.

Just another proof that people with concealed weapon permits should be allowed to carry on campus.

Just wondering if it had more then 2 military features like a barrel shroud or other assaulting weapon features... I guess no politician will talk about this...

Move to outlaw knives? Nah....

But it wouldn't surprise me to see Washington gun-grabbers spin this horrible event for their cause. Something like this ---

As terrible as this situation was, just think how much worse it would have been had this troubled young man had military style assault weapons with a lot of clips (Washington technical speak). Instead of 14 injured, there might have been dozens dead. Reference Sandy Hook.

-- Wouldn't surprise me at all...
