As I mentioned in an earlier thread....

IMHO... S&W is trying to rid itself of the "Sigma Stigma"...
A bad reputation (deserved or not) is hard to undo...
So marketing kicks in with a new updated model/name...
VOILA!!!!....no more bad reputation...

I'm just glad I got my 9VE at $275 OTD when I did...
May not ever see that price again...

I think you're right on the money my friend!

Maybe they will have a super sigma blowout sale.

I'd sure like to get another one!;)

They sell big around here, probably all over, so I'm wondering if they'd have any stock for a blowout sale.

Seems like every time I go to the range, someone has a Sigma out for a spin. Guy next to me on my last trip had one fresh out of the store. Shot flawless & accurate for him, he was amazed at what a great deal the Sigma is. I told him "welcome to the club" cause that's exactly what I said after my 1st range trip with mine. :D

I don't know?? Crimson trace just made a laser for the Sigma. You would think S&W would let them in if they were going to drop the Sigma.

Just curious:

Does anybody have a theory on why the SD's aren't on the S&W website yet?

The cat is out of the bag; what are they waiting for?

@leejack
I believe, like any company, they want to control the message. Yes it leaked, however, the new sku might not be available to the public until 2011, after they show it off at ShotShow 2011 in Vegas.

The pictures of the new Bodyguard pistols were all over the place last year, however its at ShotShow2010 that they introduced them to the end-users.

That being said, its a beautiful gun, but I am not sad for buying mine. There are other beautiful guns on the market right now, but I chose the Sigma and love it. That's not to say that I might not pick one up when they become available ;-)

Cheers!

I talked with someone from S&W this morning. He said the Sigma is not going away. The new pistol is to fill the price gap of the Sigma & M&P.

Looks like more than a leak when dealer item numbers are on websites already.Something new to yak about at least. Maybe leejack can heal up from all the beatings he got here and on other forums.

LOL! I'll try!

I had to battle some jerk just yesterday on another board. He said my beloved sigma was a POS.

It will be interesting to see how this new gun does once it hits the market!

Sigma rocks!

From this side it's definitively Sigma in origin:

The melonite, slide redesign, and accessory rail would be worth $100 over the Sigma. But I am guessing on price. If it was much more than that everyone would just buy the M&P.

According to Lipsey's website, the front site is a night sight. That is another nice touch.

Sigma replacement?

Kind of hard to tell until they come out and people start firing off ammo through them...

Guys, I think we are seeing the Sigma replacement. Not sure if I want to buy it until they put a thumb safety on it. Or if they take my advice and sale a compact version of it.

Smith and Wesson couldn't make that a SA/DA? :/

I agree. I probably wouldn't buy it in the form shown, but if they have a compact version, I'd definitely consider. Time will tell.

I just got off of the phone with S&W (service dept) discussing some repairs to my 686+. I asked about the SD series and he told me that they received an email about a meeting tomorrow to learn more about the guns. I asked if they were going to replace the Sigma line and he thought (key here being that he was not sure) that the SD guns will be in addition to the Sigma and M&P.
Time will tell.
