Worried about my cat

boy, you are touchy, smoke.
pissing contest?
where?

just so you know, there are cats n there are cats.
my drifter spent the first year of her life living in the bush, on her own.
she knows how to avoid coyotes.

now, she does what cats have been bred to do, protecting my crops.
we have kept cats around for thousands of years so they could do this important work.

My tamed feral cats are inside when it's a busy night with predators. My dog is in and out so the cats come in. I keep a close ear on the dog too.
I listen for that serious deep bark. If you listen to your dog his tone of bark changes that's the warning we have predators nearby.

I keep on seeing dark shadows at night moving outside. I found out it's deer. I thought it was the grim reaper coming for me.

My three tamed feral cats are working outsIde cats. My four inside cats work inside. The inside cats caught three mice.

Ah Steel - I missed this thread when it was new - so sorry for your loss. If I was you, I wouldn't feel guilt about the cat roaming - I had a cat that died of the same condition that had never been out of the house and was never exposed to any of the materials that could contribute to the condition. She just was sick one day and stopped eating - couldn't climb the stairs and cried until I picked her up and put her on the foot of the bed to sleep where she always slept. Took her to the vet the next day and there was nothing to be done but put her down.

Chances are her trips out and about had nothing to do with her illness.

Sorry steelslaver. :(

I have 5 feral cats. They all live outside. I don't know exactly where they live but they seem to do just fine even in sub-zero temperatures.

I don't want to go look for their home because I don't want them to feel threatened and try to find somewhere else to live.

I've seen them outside playing like its the middle of the summer and it was only 5 degrees out there.

I put fresh water out and feed them twice a day. They never let me touch them. They wont come inside if I leave the door open.

Sometimes a couple of them are waiting for me when I come out of the shop. I can tell they are happy to see me by their actions.

If I come outside and they're not there I can whistle and they will come. I'm sure they think I'm whistling for them to come an eat.

They still eat birds and mice. I watched one of the kittens eat a small bird, feathers and all.

I have a friend feed them when I'm out of town.
