Worst beer?

When we were broke and underage we bought cases of "Buckhorn".
It was bearable really cold but if it warmed up, it got pretty nasty.

Seconded! Back in my drinkin' days (sobered up in 1982) we'd buy and drink Buckhorn if we were broke.

And I agree with you, CTY... you could get it down fine if it was cold.

I think in the late '70's, it was $4.00 a case in a loose box.

:p

Now, a Carling Black Label that had set in the hold of a cargo ship in Saigon harbor for 6 months would be one of my candidates, near the top of the list, along with "Blatz"-which I think also described the after effects, and Fallstaff, along with a pickled egg from the jar on the bar would make a trip to a G.I. Doc unnecessary, if you lived-to say nothing about you friends and relatives. Drinking more that 1/2 of an "Iron City" should have been evidence to me that I was a person that shouldn't drink at all. I finally came to that revelation, with a lot of help and much experimentation, and don't drink on days ending in "Y" any more.

When I drinked years ago,you couldn't give me a Fall City beer. We use to call them dish water.

Back in the 1970's, Falls City was considered "exotic" beer here in Cincinnati LOL. Drummond Bros. was another IIRC. As kids we used to prize collecting those cans from far off Louisville. Times sure have changed.

Up in the rolling hills of southeastern Missouri first settled by the Germans, Stag is considered premium beer. Of course, many bars around these parts have Natural Light on tab, so take that for what it's worth . . .

(Falstaff was okay. On par with Hamm's . . . )

I don't drink beer but heard Stag was pretty bad.
It is still sold in the STL area and across the river in Illinois.

Was Falstaff any good?

Worst .....beer......?
Hmmm....

Me and my brother in law were drinking this stuff called dragon's milk. I think it was bourbon and craft beer put together. Really high in the alc%. I dont remember how much. I dont wanna.

"He" disappeared from our little get together only to be found sleeping in his car by my wife and her other brother.(luckily outside my house! Dont drink and drive folks!)They both had to drive him home in two cars. I heard he didn't make it to his bed. After he got home, he ended up in the bathtub with his clothes on throwing up all over himself. Or so his wife claims.
I couldn't keep food down the next day. I think what helped me is I got the munchies and ate "late" and drank coffee. I knew I was gonna pay for it the next day. Sure glad I didn't have to drive OR be driven. That was the worst one that happened recently.
Natural light tastes like water. It isnt bad in the sense that it just doesn't taste like anything to me.
Budweiser gives me a headache.
I wouldn't drink any I've mentioned.
Oh, and there was that one time with 4 liters of Corona and tequila......that was bad.
:(

I've had way more than my share of drinking stories like that. Fortunately they were all many, many years ago. I have absolutely no desire to go there again. My ex-wife left me passed out in the front yard next to a big pile of dog poo (But who was there first?), to be awakened by the morning car and foot traffic of the sober part of the populace heading off to work. I'm sure I made appealing yard art and made the neighborhood proud. No thanks, I have to desire to even remotely repeat that. Two drinks is pretty much my limit now and has been for many years.

p.s.: Actually I guess I'm off topic as due to the time period my poison of the evening was probably either cheap Paisano wine or cheap Scoresby scotch. Beer was too slow.

I posted this photo over in the "you might be a redneck" thread, but
got to thinking it might be better here. Anyway, I travelled a bit in
the 1960s so I collected quite a number of different beer cans. Then
I made this beautiful work of art. Does this almost make me a beer
connoisseur? I did drink all of the beer as well.

Beer

Schiltz was a great beer until they changed the formula in order to reduce production time. I remember some Schaefer Beer that a friend bought for .99 a six-pack in the mid 1980's. It made me gag, and was so bad even my frugal friend could not drink it.[/QUOTE
I always liked Schaefer==it was all I could afford at the time and it sure tasted good to me! I'd still drink it if I could find it anywhere. :D

Absolute worst I ever had was Old Shay. Me and 2 buddies all underage bought a 6 pack or 2. Probably because of the price. It actually tasted like rust. Not sure if it was supposed to taste as such or not. I think it was brewed by Jones Brewing in Smithton Pa. Mama Partridge Shirley Jones was related to the founders somehow. They also made Stoneys which a lot of the local diabetics would drink because it had no added sugar.

For me the worst and the second best are all bundled into one bottle.

Einstök Arctic Pale Ale (Imported from Iceland) is absolutely the worst swill to cross the palate if served above 50 degrees F. To me the hoppyness is just unbearable when served "Warm."

On the other hand, get Einstök Arctic Pale Ale down to about 37 to 42 degrees and it's the second best beer/ale I've ever tasted.

Coming in a close third for worst beer was one I saw mentioned here a few years ago, Tiger Beer.

My local beer/wine/liquor store of choice generally has 400-500 different beers/porters/ales/stouts in stock at any time. Last week they had a "New" beer, Tiger Beer. Poured 4 cans down the drain. Not fit for human consumption in my opinion.

For my "Best of Best" I have to go with a beer I had in Wibaux, MT. It was a "Wibaux Wheat" from Beaver Creek Brewery in Wibaux. It was smooth at any temp, not to sweet, not to sharp. All in all, best damn beer I've ever had.

Trot and Brew (thread drift but kinda related)

In the 80's the town of Steelton, PA, used to host a road race called the 'Trot and Brew.'

Was a one mile foot 'race' that required runners to stop in five (5!) different taverns along the way to the finish line. Had to bring 5 quarters and use them to buy the beers. They were 8 ounces each and already poured in plastic cups; you ran into the bar, paid your quarter, guzzled the beer, and were on your way.

I was fit and fast (drinking AND running!) in those days and finished under 10 minutes. Some of you will say 'that's not very fast for a mile'...and I agree. But factor in the 40 ounces of beer you consume and it sounds better.

As an aside, I thought I was gonna die. Did it (the run, not the die) only once...and obviously they no longer have it.

Be safe.

UPDATE: A version of the race is STILL contested in a neighboring town. Now 1.5 miles; 3 beers. Happily, I missed the race on August 11.

Bosch Beer - hands down . . . but it tasted much better back in my Michigan Tech University days at the weekly brewery tour when it was free.

Falstaff must be pretty good. New Riders Of The Purple Sage think so.

When I was 18 I used to go see the Clarks on the far side of our subdivision to visit their two daughters. Herr Clark used to keep a 12 pack of Texas Pride on the floor next to his lounger. When you came to his house it was not "Would you like a beer?", it was "Here, have a beer." Texas pride was leftover dregs of Pearl beer and let me tell you, at room temperature that was some nasty stuff. The girls were worth it though.

My friends and I would get together and one of us would say "You got 75 cents?" If you said yes his matching 75 cents would get you a six-pack, tax included. This was back around 1980.
