Worst meal you ever ate multiple times?

I have to vote for post #5 as one that I remember the most, as something
that I really had trouble swallowing.

It was four times harder to swallow that,
than when I was 14 years old and had my first serving of wet, fuzzy, snotty, luke warm, green Okra
that took two hours.

I'm one of the worlds least picky eaters.
There are literally only 3 or 4 things I dislike enough that I refuse to eat them.
One the rare occasion that I have something I don't like I don't eat it again.
The most recent example I can think of was about 8 or 9 years ago my wife made a ham and cauliflower casserole. Neither of our boys would eat it and I barely got a helping down. She hasn't tried cooking that one again, and likely won't as it is still a standing joke around the house.

Like BC38 I was born with a curious and tolerant palate. There are few foods on my "I'd rather starve" list.

I met my Waterloo about 25 years ago. Ruthie found a recipe that she deemed "healthy". Impossible Salmon Pie.

She proudly placed it on the table and said "tell me what you guys think".

The girls and I tried it. It was like a Fellini film. Our eyes were suspensefully darting back and forth to each other silently screaming "who's going to tell her"?

After what seemed like hours Ruthie said "what"?

My youngest said "taste it". Ruthie took a bite, wrinkled her nose and put her fork down.

Her only genuine culinary disaster which the girls like to remind her of.

Another vote for liver & onions as the worse.
My father loved it. Buried my dad Xmas eve in 93, RIP Dad & hope
Mom is making it up there !!
Soul day in the service is a good 2nd. place.

I am one of the 6 or 7 GIs who actually like Ham and Limas-they were referred to with a term which cannot be used on this forum. Often traded smokes-I don't smoke-for them. Always got the better of that deal.
From my misspent youth-
1. Scrambled eggs with cheese. Recall them from one summer night. My maternal aunt came up with weird combinations, that was one of them.
2. Pea soup with franks. Also from my aunt.
3. Numerous battles with my mother over my refusal to eat asparagus, broccoli, zucchini, etc.
4. Can still smell the liver cooking in one Army mess hall. UGH !!!
5. Read numerous stories of WWII GIs coping with powdered scarmbled eggs.

I love liver & onions, heart, lamb; even broccoli and brussel sprouts. Steak tartar, yum... I also enjoy most sushi and sashimi, with one exception.

My wife worked at Nippondenso for a while and they had fabulous parties featuring a lot of different Japanese foods. They brought chefs over from Japan, because a lot of the executives were here on work visa's. Everything was fabulous, until I hit the sea urchin roe. Blehhh!

Flash forward a decade later to the Fuji Buffet in Madison Heights, MI. I spotted a platter of sea urchin roe on their sushi bar. I figured I might have got a bad batch the first time, so I gave it a second chance. Bad move - Aackk!!

I now leave it for those who enjoy the tantalizing aroma of a stagnant swamp on a hot summer day.

I guess I am fortunate in that during my 20-year career, I never had to eat a C-ration nor MRE. I don't think the AF chefs were keen on preparing them.

Mom would come up with some strange concoctions! Usually on a sunday night!

I would take a bite, and put my fork down! And proclaim I was full! Dad did the same only once. Whatever it was Mom liked it and ate it all! After a meal like that, I usually made a big bowl of pop corn!

Besides all the GI stuff,
Have eaten Brains, Liver, Stomach, Mutton, Clay Baked Chicken, Rice Bug and Sweet Breads.
Mountain Oysters, yes. Rattlesnake.
But the bottom of the list?
Got to be Hoghead Cheese.
Mostly congealed grease.
Couldn’t remember exactly what Sweet Breads were -
Sweetbread is a culinary name for the thymus or pancreas, typically from calf or lamb.
Used to like fried Deer Liver and Heart.
We would slice the heart and liver, wash in salt water, flour and fry.
I don’t eat any of this stuff any more.
It can kill you off in your Semi-Prime.

I concur with many here that liver is nasty. Ran it by us, twice. I'm out!

Second most disgusting that I had to eat more than once would be the dehydrated mystery 'meat patty' MRE's.... Aaakk.
Some of you guys may also recall failing to trade away this disgusting bag of meat-foam.

I actually preferred some of the C's. Yes it was canned, but at least it resembled food.
