Would You carry this 19-5?

I carry my 2 1/2” M19-5 on occasion, I carry my 3” CS-1 on occasion. My guns that get carried the most are my Glocks and J Frames but I do carry others. Most of us here are collectors or accumulaters in some shape and fashion. You can fondle and polish your safe queens or you can put it in a holster and walk around outside with it and shoot it from time to time. Do what makes you happy. The 2 1/2” M19 and 66 are great carry guns, not so much fun to shoot, I would much rather shoot my 3” CS-1 or 3” M13-3 then my 2 1/2” M19
The ergonomics on this gun must be "just right" for me. I regularly run 30-50 rounds of 158 gr. 357 American Eagle during a session, mostly one hand, DA. I can sometimes manage a 6" group at 25 yards. I absolutely love shooting this baby.

Thank you, all, for your comments.
The reason I asked the question is because I saw a very similar 19-5, on GB last night bid up to $1510. Maybe sold for more; I haven't checked. I bought this gun for 1/3 of that, about a year ago, not as an investment or collectible, but only because I wanted a .357 snub, at a reasonable price. I think I'll find a really good holster, and carry it.

If I had a 25 year-old Ferrari, I'd drive it to church and to car shows, but I don't think I'd go autocrossing with it or parking it at the Walmart.

Translation: if it were mine, I'd shoot it a lot at the range, but I doubt I'd put it in danger of getting scratched or stolen/confiscated.

I'm not a fan of adjustable sights on a carry gun. Sharp edges that can snag on clothing or dig into flesh or damaged in a scuffle. Personally, I would not carry a Model 19 unless it was one of the new, Classic 19's. In addition, I prefer non-ferrous carry guns, so I would look for a stainless steel 38 Special or 357 Magnum as a carry revolver.

That auction doesn't close 'till tonight, so we're not really supposed to discuss it yet, but IMHO it's an outlier. For whatever reason, that gun has bid to almost double 'normal' for a later, non- P&R M19.

If an M19 snubbie is what you want to carry, carry it. A round but K frame is one hell of a good shooter. That said, as much as I love them, my carry guns are usually modern bottom feeders for a lot of reasons that may be better discussed in another thread.

Is beautiful!!

Sure, why not carry it? It's not like that's damaging it in any way. Unless, of course, you anticipate being involved in a defensive shooting and expect the cops to confiscate her. In my defense, I sometimes (not often) CCW a 4" 29-2.

I think I understand what you mean, but stainless steel is a ferrous metal. Stainless steel is steel (itself an alloy of iron and carbon) alloyed with varying amounts of nickel, which make it highly rust resistant and varying degrees of being non-magnetic, but it still has iron as a component. To me, a "non-ferrous" gun would be all plastic, or come other metal like brass, bronze, or copper.

If I remember correctly from my time in LE, if it was determined we needed to confiscate a firearm, we went after all you had. They all ended up in evidence.

Maybe things have changed.

Or just buy Hi Points.

Kevin

Not knowing when or where you served, I can only say that I cannot imagine any of the judges I had to approach for warrants ever going for a blanket "any firearm in possession" warrant. In fact if the suspect was found in possession of a .357 at a scene where the shootee was the recipient of a .357 slug there is no way on earth we would have been allowed to search for or seize a .45 or .22 otherwise legally possessed.

"Particularly describing" meant something and AFAIK it is still in the Constitution.

With that out of the way, for me it would get down to why I was carrying and why I thought a 2.5" .357 was the best choice. If my conclusion was that I wanted to be ready to defend my life and that was the weapon in which I had the most confidence, reduced resale value or the fate of the weapon after I used it successfully would not be considerations. Period.

And aluminum alloys. I should have been more specific. I prefer to carry handguns that are not blued carbon steel. :o Hard chrome, in my opinion, is at least as durable and resistant to corrosion as stainless.
