Would you drain your tank?

Sounds like somebody maybe a kid messing with you. Or a gas stealer scared off? If they were really aiming to mess you up bad, they probably would have closed the cap and door.

I am on my way to town to buy some lockable caps. The cap wasnt gone on the truck, the gas door was open and the cap was off and hanging by a rubber thingey. I aint going to worry about it as I have the insurance and am 90% sure it was a prank. I love the truck, its a extended cab with the stepside. Usualy I just leave my trailer on it to go quad riding or haul stuff to the dump. Hardly drive it most of the time. It has only about 124,000 miles on her. The reason given why the year older GMC is more than the year newer silverado is, is he claims some testing company claims the GMC is rated a couple points out of a 100 worse thann the silverado is in a side crash test! The GMC is a three door and the silverado has 4 doors. The insurance rate question is being explored and we left the conversation with he is "going to try and work something out".

Sugar in the gas

I was told moth balls (napthalene) down the tank would seize the engine. Snopes disproved this one too. Joe

I think "Mythbusters" did a story about sugar in gas = no effect.

When I was about 16 the local story was mothballs in the gas tank would VASTLY improve power output.

Mothballs in the tank of my Honda 150 Dream had no effect that I could see, good or bad.

Also as a side note, asprin in Coke will not make you drunk. (7th grade)

Smoking banana peels will only give you a sore throat. (about 1969 after watching "The Smothers brothers")

....and a Guinness with 5 drops of rubber sap is not "Island Viagra"

If you have an insurance agent you may be paying more, perhaps a LOT more. When I switched to Geico I slashed my premiums nearly in half while getting the same coverage... a little better actually. Now I don't have anyone to come over to my house and hold my hand if I have a claim, but over the years I've saved close to $10k in premiums from what I would have paid to my agent at State Farm.

I've actually called a couple places that swore on mom's grave they would save me money. When I tell them I'm with GEICO they lose interest & wish me good day. ;)

Hardly any real gas thieves today bother with siphoning, instead they punch a hole in the plastic tanks and drain quickly into ready gas jugs. The bus I drive for a retirement home had nearly 30 gallons taken in this method, it was parked off the beaten path and gave them plenty of time to pull it off, now they park it in front of the building by a large light.

Would you believe neither GMC or chevy sell locking caps for the truck? They both are the same. First I stopped to napa but they didnt have any but can order them. Talked to the parts guy at gmc and he says sugar WILL ruin the engine despite what snoops says. I probley will order some from napa tomorrow. I am going to take my chances and not drain the tank.

No local enemy's since I retired and moved here. I had only drove it .8 of a mile since I had filled it up and drove home. I do have a faulty gauge that I havent fixed as I was told they have to take off the box bed of the truck just to get to it. The gauge usually will come up after a mile of driving so I always go by the trip meter. I drove it yesterday about a mile to check that and its reading full.

Since you drove it since and it ran OK, you probably are OK.

Luckily my insurance man is the one who found it! When he left I did ask him if my insurance company would pay for it if it was sugared. He said yeah, it would come under vandalism.
Listen to this one. The reason I had him come over was I had just got billed for my two trucks and never read the bills close before. I have a 2000 GMC and a 2001 silverado. The 6 month bills show that the year older GMC was about $87s MORE than the year newer silverado! Both have the extended cabs and are almost the same truck. I lost it! We still havent completely solved what we are going to do but I have two houses, a car, both trucks and a quad through him. I had threatned to go insurance shopping as we went back in records and this has been going on since we moved here 8 years ago!

The first one is 'full price'. The second one gets the 'multi-car' discount. You could have your agent test this by reversing the order of the trucks on the policy - see if the second one is still significantly cheaper.

I wouldn't drain the tank. Reason: IMHO - I try to only deal with the problems I REALLY have and make a major effort not to create worrying fantasies in my head. Was it sugared? Did leprechauns take some gas to build a warming fire near their pot of gold? Did the NSA install a tracking device? It never ends...

54 years ago a bunch of us were sitting in a bar near yosemite. A guy came in and was crushing aspirins and taking a cigarette apart and putting the powder in the middle and smoking it. Claimed he got high off it. The owner came over and threw his butt out. I remember the guy claimed he was johnny ray`s body guard. Now dont any of you try that but if you do report if it works.
