X Frame in .350 Legend

Two comments:

1) can't wait to see somebody load up the moonclips with 9mm, 38 super, 9x23, etc in one of these behemoths.

2) this will be a good candidate for a .40 cal/10mm straight-wall .224valkyrie/6.8SPC rechamber

It sounds like the answer to a question no one was asking. It will flop.

In states like Iowa, where straight walled pistol cartridges are all that's allowed in rifles for deer season, the 350 Legend is very popular. It is still no match for the 357 Maximum though.

This CVA Apex was rebarreled by Dave White and shoots a 150gr Raptor bullet at 2450fps...it's taken a dozen deer, each with one shot.

I am not real interested in the cartridge and really not interested in the gun. It is just too big to be considered a practical handgun in my opinion. Nice novelty item I guess. Great for pulling out at the range to impress everyone with your "macho". I can't imagine what else it is good for. If it were a pound heavier it would need a trailer hitch and a set of wheels. If I am going to schlepp this much weight through the woods, there a all kinds of light rifles that would be a much better choice.

MGM!

Living in Southern Michigan I am a big fan of the caliber, but no interest at all in a huge heavy handgun chambered for it.

I would be very interested in S&W bringing back the Contender and chambering it in 350 with a 16 inch barrel. I have thought seriously about getting a barrel for my Encore, but that is overkill weight wise for this cartridge.
Stick with your Encore! A much better gun than the old Contender, I have both! I just had MGM make me a barrel for an old cartridge to play with! You can pick the barrel length, twist, sight config, and weight. You will be able to get everything possible out of the 350. I have a 460 barrel for my Encore and the speed difference compared to the revolver is unbelievable, Hornady 200gr from the 8 3/8" revolver is 2450fps and the same from my 20" Encore is 2999fps

Well, I'm a happy camper, just found and purchased one for under $100.00 MSRP. Should have it by the end of the week then it's off to the gun club for dialing in. I now have the trifecta of X-frames.

Either you meant to write "$100.00 under MSRP" or your local dealer is about to go out of business. ;) Range report please!

$1499.00 as opposed to $1599.00, still a happy camper and will give a range report.

I'm sort of interested although I wouldnt call it a must buy...

Any chance this can chamber anything other than 350L? I never gave the cartridge a serious look as I don't have the restrictions here that make it attractive elsewhere.

Always nice when S&W releases a new model, and I do think the X-frame is underused. However, 7-shot .44Mag would sell a lot better than this still new and "exotic" caliber requiring moonclips. Don't think this model will sell in large numbers.

I suspect it will end up like the 30 M1 Blackhawks- an interesting curiosity. I doubt s&w expects to sell millions of these, although I do look forward to breathless paid reviewers retreading the 350 legend and acting as will become the wave of the future.

350 legend is dreadful

It sounds like the answer to a question no one was asking. It will flop.
Been working up loads for a friend in the 350 legend and
anyone who has done this knows the Winchester cases
can't be reloaded per primer hole, then the other problem
is lack of info on loading them. + don't send me the latest
greatest insight into info on it.
They are NOT .357 dia: as some sites tell you, plus also
ya da ya da, too much to cover. Just that I don't see the
future being good to this caliber.

I don't hunt any more so this gun is just for fun at the range. It goes along with my 460 & 500. Looking forward to it.

I suspect a lot more X-frame revolvers are bought for fun at the range than for hunting or bear defense.

And for those of us that don't reload the 350 Legend makes sense because 350 ammo is much less expensive than 460 or 500 S&W. I glanced online and 500 ammo is priced at $3 to $5 per round. FMJ 350 is about $0.75. Not only is that much less expensive than 500 S&W it is also less expensive than anything 44 but not by as big of a margin.

I am absolutely an X-frame owner that does not hunt with it, it is for slapping steel plates from 100-500 yards and for the pure joy of sharing it with friends and interested folks at the range.

Mine's the .460 Mag and if I wasn't a handloader, I wouldn't own it.

Looking forward to hearing about how the .350 Legend rolls.

Several showed up on Gunbroker so I bought the lowest priced one I saw. Should be here next week. I have a good supply of 350 ammo so that part's covered. I don't hunt any more so this gun is just for fun at the range. It goes along with my 460 & 500. Looking forward to it.

Had mine out to the gun club today and it is one sweet, smooth shooter. I found the recoil comparable to the Model 610 or Model 41 Magnum. I too have both the S&W .460 and .500 Magnum 8/38" barrels, the 350 Legend is mild in comparison.

Finally shot mine today. First cylinder was fine, recoil wasn't an issue at all but it is a "boomer". The only ammo I had with me was older Winchester. Second cylinder and things started to go less well. The moon clips are flimsy and easily bent, causing the cylinder to bind and eventually not close. I had a couple pierced primers and most showed excess chamber pressure signs. Hopefully Smith will come out with better moon clips as these really are substandard. I need to try other ammo as well. Thats all for now.

I think the 350 would be well served with 2 round clips. The length of the cases give lots of leverage to bend them l. 2round clips lay flat. Easy to align and insert and it ain't like these are going to be needing many speed reloads
