Your favorite breed of dog?

Not really a hunting breed, but my favorite breed has been the German Shepherd. I have owned two, and both have been smart and eager to please. The way they look you in the eye, and try to anticipate what you want is amazing. They are easy to train, but do need regular exercise, and are at their best when given a regular activity that challenges them. They are a great companion, and can be protective of the family, but do so with intelligent discretion. OFA certification of the parents is important, as hip Dysplasia can run in the breed.

We have two Brittanys, they fit our life well.

They like adventure, running, swimming and good old sniffing things out.

They do need exercise on a daily basis and a walk will not do. So it's playing frisbee or ball till they get tired sometimes a few times a day.

They are loving, snuggly dogs. I also feel they are a great size and weight, we have smaller females about 30lb.

We did adopt them from a Brittany rescue organization.

I had other dogs as a kid but grew up to be a fan of Springers.
Had three and the first one, a pound rescue, was the best.
He was black and white and dedicated to finding birds. He was
good on grouse and excellent on woodcock.

My allergies kept me from having one for many years now.
Wish that was not true.

My last dog was a Sheltie, and the smartest dog I ever met. My first wife and I got him for my stepson Donny, who was ten at the time, and within a few short months he was my dog. He loved playing fetch, but when I told him it was the last throw, I had to fetch that one myself. He'd just sit there and look at me! He's been gone for twenty-six years, and I still miss him.

And I love Siberian Huskies! One of the most beautiful dogs that there is, and very smart, too. I love watching videos of them on YT.

Me and my family have had far more mutts than we have purebreds. The first dog was around before I was born-Boots (named by my dad for his 4 white paws). Mostly lab or hound mixes after him.

We didn't have a purebred until I was around 14, a mini-schnauzer named Schroeder lol. He was my mom's favorite. One day my dad found an Irish Setter running loose on a main road in Tucson, he whistled and she came running into his van. He would take those two everywhere with him.

He put an ad in the paper for two weeks, no takers (that was around 1975). Tara lasted until 1992, passing shortly after my dad did. My first purebred was a wonderful German Shepherd that I only had 5 years before he was poisoned. That was around 1981.

After that every dog has been a mutt. And they've all been wonderful. My current 85lb lap dog has been seen here a lot. Ziva is now 10, have had her 9 years and she's an amazing pup. Lab/Rottie mix, very loving and protective when she needs to be. Even my son and his family have a mixed-a puggle my daughter in law got a few years before they married-a very sweet and funny little beastie, very loving too.

I'm sure I'll have something else when Ziva goes but for now she's the best-as has been everyone I've ever had. Hope to have a fun reunion with all of them one day when I'm pushing up the grass.

Honey Bear when I dog sat a couple of months ago

They like each other lol

My favorite breed is the Bassett Hound. Good natured and clever dogs, with a talent for being stubborn. Some people would say it's the dog I'm most like. I have to admit my Bassett and I had many of the same interests, in particular food and comfortable furniture.

My favorite is my Nederlandse Kooikerhondje! They are a small spaniel of Dutch decent used to lure ducks into a trap. My wife passed last December and then the COVID hit with all the restrictions. I think that she kept me sane through the worst of it all. 26 pounds of furry love!

I lean towards the herding or droving breeds. I guess it's about the speed you want to be.

The bigger they get the more protective, Think wolf killers. I've been owned by a Briard and a Giant Schnauzer. Awesome protectors. Both will walk their flock or herd on a time and make sure the bad guys stay away.

It seems like the smaller one are the real herd drivers. They are fun to watch. Really working the herd or flock to get them where they need to be. They are lightning quick and move live stock like nobodies business. I just lost my Portuguese Sheepdog and have an Australian Cattle Dog. Two totally different kinds of herding. Both capable.

As mentioned, Males are nuts and girl are serious but can be silly too. My male dogs have been a serious source of entertainment over the years

I had a female Irish Setter as a kid. She never hunted but went everywhere with me. She was smart and sweet and anyone who thinks the breed is stupid or wacky hasn't been around a good one.

Most dogs can be good given a lot of attention, good training and a loving home.

My favorite dog. Serious disclosure we have had no dogs just cats over the last 50 years. We have had a lot of cats with many being large Maine Coons. The Coons tend to act more like dogs than typical cats.

Many friends and relatives have had dogs. The majority of them were either Labs, GSD or Rotties and quite a few Heinz 57s!

Considering taking into account all their traits I would have to say Labs are my favorite. Pin me down to color and I would say black Labs are my #1!
