Model 19
Purchased a Model 19 years ago but had to sell due to needing the money to help raise my family. Always regretted selling it, but now I am able to enjoy purchasing various S&W's. Just bought two last week...a 686 Performance Center and a Model 317.

First one and I still have it is a Combat Masterpiece 4 inch production year 1951. Second one was a Military and Police model 10 6 inch barrel production 1955. I did later trade the M&P for a model 66. The Combat Masterpiece is still the best shooter I have ever had.

Roughly 1978, young, newly married and living in a questionable rental part of town. I was working nights and decided we needed something in the house just in case. Found a used P&R 4" Model 19 at a local gun shop. Cost me almost a whole pay check, but gave some piece of mind.
At the time I had no idea what a P&R Model 19 would come to be worth. Foolishly sold it a few years later to finance my latest desire.
I have since corrected that mistake.

First handgun I purchased was in 1975 for a firearms class at JC it was a 6" Model 28 used for $150 with a holster, 100 .357 rds and two speed loaders w/o the case. First new handgun was a blue Model 39-2 for $210. I too wish I still had them and others I bought and sold over the years.
I never had a S&W in my first foray into gun amassing some 40-plus years ago. When I got back into it in 2006, I figured there would be a smith in my future sooner or later, and it turned out to be this one. I picked it up two years ago: a 629-6. Hated the rubber stocks and put on some E-bay specials that are fairly comfortable and attractive despite being from a non-name maker.
After this the disease hit bad and I've been averaging a new one every 5-6 weeks, all Smiths save one. I'm tending toward the mid-century classics now, roughly the 10 years on either side of WWII.

My First Smith
A Model 34 2" Kit Gun. I paid $40 in 1962 at the age of 20. And that gun shop is still in business,also

S&W Model 57, 4". Purchased new in 1965. I picked it out of a whole stack of 57s in presentation cases because I liked the grips best. I think it was about $140.00.

At about 23 years of age (I think), after purchasing an H&R 22 and a Ruger BH in 357, I bought a M36. It quickly became my wife's protection piece and remains so to this day. She refuses any and all offers from me to replace it with a new piece. I'm sure that it will be with her to her last days.
I used it for my concealed carry class. The other members of my class were not very impressed but, my instructor was and asked to fire it. Gotta love the old school guys!

Your first S&W
My first S&W was a model 19 dash nothin I bought my senior year of high school. It hardly had any blue left but it was tighter than an ugly 8th grader. The first S&W I ever received as a gift was a brand new model 65 in 1978 from my first wife when I was sworn in as an LEO. No longer have either one but I wish I still did.

Mine was an 8-3/8 686. Mid 1980's.

About 1971 I bought a brand new FN Browning Hi-Power for $90. I didn't like the Hi-Power so traded it even up for my first S&W, a mod 19 with a 2 1/2" bbl. Had it for a number of years before selling or trading it.

It was the early 80's. I had been collecting military guns for a few years. This was my first "cop" gun, a S&W M-28 4".

My ex father in law gave me a model 29. It was a 4" blue. That was my favorite gun. Unfortunately for me it was sold by my ex while I was deployed to Iraq. Some day I will be able to afford another one.

my first was a model 28-2 from my father. it has the 4" barrel, although i wish it had a 6". it was my first pistol and it was from dear old dad, so i don't see it going anywhere soon.

Mine was a Nickel Model 10 with the old school tapered 4" barrel. I bought it brand new in Oct 1983 after turning 21 and getting my WA State CCW. Gun price was $99 and I bought a box of Remington 158 Gr JHP and a set of Pachmayer Presentation rubber grips and IIRC the total with tax was $129. That revolver went everywhere I did back then until I obtained a Model 15 2" in 1985. I traded the Model 10 strait across for a Marlin 357 mag lever action 1n 1988.
Sir, my first Smith was a used 6-inch 629 that I traded into in 1988 or '89. I didn't know about dash numbers then, but I think it was probably a dash-1. I kept it only a short while before trading it off on something else. A couple years later, I bought a new 4-inch Model 25-9 that I still have.

My first store bought handgun was a S&W M28 with four inch barrel. I still have it, but had it converted to .45ACP years and years ago when parts were available to do so.
