Zombie this, Zombie that! Can someone explain what this "Zombie Craze" is about??

Everywhere on the different websites selling ammo and targets, etc. All I see lately is zombie this and zombie that. Can someone explain what this is all about, I have see it long before halloween and don't have a clue. Seems a bit goofy to me. Thanks

It's likely about...zombies.

I could be wrong though. :D

It's a fad...kinda like westerns were in the 1950's and 1960's- unlikely to last as long though.

Most excellent question. :D
I had always thought that zombies were the ones that absolutely refuse to take responsibility for their own life and prefer to do nothing while the tax payers support them in their chosen life of poverty.
(not to be confused with the ones that are there through no fault of their own)

I think it more likely refers to the hordes of kool-aid drinkers that continue to believe in politicians promises during election years...

IMO there is a bit of Political Correctness in play. Think about it, Zombies are walking Undead who eat brains and spread a horrible infection that may eliminate the Human Race. So, nobody is going to criticize you for elminating as many as you can. So, until the ACLU steps in, you can shoot as many Zombies as come your way and nobody will criticize you a bit.

BTW, since it is Haloween, I feel that it's only appropriate to point out that the Zombie apacolypse hasn't happend yet, it's simply speculation. So, if a Zombie happens to knock on your door tonight just give them some candy and send them on their way.

As it pertains to guns, and stuff gun related it is a bunch of BS. Zombies are in movies and need to stay there. As pertains to feral humans they can be taken care of quite nicely with the same guns that have served us for the last 50 to 100 years. And a cranial injection of 230 grains can solve "behavior problems" as well as something with a bunch of BS about zombies on the box. Actually, in LE I saw many people killed with the most ordinary types of guns, and ammo, and all the great feats of arms in our glorious history, was accomplished with ordinary firearms and common types of ammo. On the other hand I have yet to hear of a case where a bad guy was stopped by marketing hype.

I think Zombies are more attractive as a fad than pants worn below the waist, or low rise skinny jeans with G-strings showing. I'll look at the undead any day over other people's junk hanging out their trunk.

OK, the PC police will not arrest you for shooting a picture of a Zombie, no one is going to sue you for shooting Zombie mannequins that bleed. No one is going the protest a company the sell Zombie ammunition. Now substitute the words Islamic Fundamentalist Terrorist for Zombie, get the idea.

Mike, vampires are all too trendy. It's the girly in fad, with all those stupid Twilight books and movies. Today's vampire is sparkly, romantic, doesn't kill for blood. In other words, vampires are no longer vampires. They had weaksauce werewolves in those books too from what I understand.

I got two pages in to see what all the girls at school were gushing over and had to quit. I can't fathom a whole series and movies from that garbage.

zombies are just folks that have said I dont need makeup to look good. hey this is me, this is who I am, like me or leave me.

There's actually a long history of zombie discussions on this board. It goes back at least as far as 2004 when we discussed Andy the gunstore owner and the various Smith and Wesson revolvers seen in the Dawn of the Dead remake. Then there was the long running zombie karma of passing around the Brooks guide to suriving the undead. (And occaisionally I shill my book... Google Graunch Solution.)

Anyway... zombies technically aren't just a movie thing. The idea of the Revenant got its most powerful imagery during the days of the Black Death. Diseased or insane folks were rambling around most zombie like and some were quite dangerous. Far more recently there were survivors of the 1918 flu pandemic that essentially became zombie like - they didn't eat folks (maybe they didn't get hungry enough) but they did stumble around and act an awful lot like Romero's zombies. (A good half century before that image came to film.)

And splitting the gap, a severe rabies epidemic in the Austro Hungarian empire may have been what was responsible - circa 1720 - for vampires being fairly accepted by mainstream medical science, at least in eastern europe.

Zombies are also an official preparedness contingency on the CDC list of potential disasters AND an accepted reason for creating an SBR by the ATF... Federal stamp of approval for undead preparedness.

I can be wrong but the way it was discussed in a roll call one night was this.

After the Christian Rapture, those left will be the violent that will be the walking dead. The world will have lost it's good and only the bad remains for a few years.

I disagree with there ever being walking dead or those that cannot be killed. If it were human, it can be killed. Once killed, it will not come back to life.

According to my source, it all began with some popular movie about the end of the world.

What happened to vampires and werewolves? Too teeny bopperish?

Twilight has ruined them for the foreseeable future. Zombies will never be romantically intriguing to teenage girls.

As far as historical context, revanants have been discussed, there is also the Arabic gul, or ghoul, would lure people out into the desert and eat them. The black death/great mortality has a huge impact on the idea of zombies. How would you react to 1 in 4 to 1 in 3 human beings around you dying?

Medically mad cow and other Prions can leave their victims in a zombie like state or trance.

I think it comes down to what's envogue in horror. 30 years ago after Halloween came out, countless imitations flooded theaters. Now it's zombies.

Fighting off zombies requires firearms and lots of ammo. A win for Second Amendment advocates.
