Was thinking of one of these while I save for something a little more recent and wondering if anyone has come across them/carried one recently?

(I am reading they are a little large for their caliber.)

I have shot a few CZ82/83's. Nice little guns but heavy for their size. There can be a trade off with any gun depending on what you need. Normally the little CZ's are priced right. And one benefit is the double stack magazine. But as bulky and heavy as they are, there might be better choices.

Depending on your budget, there are several 9MM's that aren't much bigger and weigh less.

In jacket weather I've carried my cz82 for CCW. It's a little bulkier and heavier that pistols designed for CCW, but it works. If you need to stay in the $200 range of a CZ82 you might also consider the PA63, same caliber and more concealable.

A quick search on CZ 82 shows a heck of a lot of positive things to say about it. If the size bothers you, take a look at the Polish P64:

Same caliber, smaller frame and with a minor spring and firing pin tune up, a really reliable gun. Fact is, though, either would serve you well.

The Polish 64 is a bit heavy on recoil for me. If you can find one, a new M88 is under $300.
From EAA: "Zastava M88 Pistol Single Action 9mm 3.6 Inch Barrel Blue Finish $244.99" here in NE FL. It's more compact than the M83 has less capacity, being a single stack, but uses cheap 9x19mm ammo. One local budget guns guy uses his for CCW, I don't know the holster type.

Who would like to see a Budget 9mm Comparison test ala Consumer Reports (TM) and they MEAN IT!

They're great guns, and the price is right, especially if you have a C&R. If I was carrying a pistol I'd prefer a 9mm for the simple fact of ammo availability, but the CZ-82's are sweet shooters.

Thanking all who responded.

FWIW - I went to a friend's brother's house a while ago and he showed me his CZ82. It looks very nice - simple and strong - and I like the polygonal bore and fit was also nice. The problem to me personally is the weight but I guess that is necessary to obtain the strength.

Being caught between what I would like and what I can afford. I think I will just have to keep saving for a steel Commander.

Again, many thanks for the information. It definitely helped.
