So here’s the scenario:
You’ve been given a 6 months stay at a cabin in an extremely remote area of Alaska accessible only by float plane.
Food stuffs are supplied and should last the 6 months as long as they’re supplemented with plentiful game in the area which includes moose, caribou, deer, bear, smaller game, birds and waterfowl.
Because of the plane weight limitations you’re only allowed to take 3 guns of your choice THAT YOU ALREADY HAVE. Ammo for all three guns must fit in a G. I. ammo can.
So, what will they be?
Here’s my choice.
A pre-64 Model 70 Winchester .375 H&H, an AH Fox 12 gauge double and a Colt Woodsman 4 1/2” .22.
For ammo, 20 rounds of 270 grain and 20 rounds of 300 grain .375’s, 25 #4, 25 #6 and 10 slugs of 12 gauge and 200 .22 high speed hollow points.
And your choice?
Admin, if this is in the wrong forum would you please move?

I’m not currently setup well for an Alaskan hunting adventure so mine picks will likely be a little out of place.

Remington 1903A3
Springfield M6 .22/.410
Colt 1911A1 (two legged worried)

I’ll have to think about the ammo and edit my post.

Don’t have a lot of guns from which to choose. So, I am going to list what I would take if I could choose. Second the Marlin lever action .45~70. Next, S&W double action .44 Mag, stainless steel, 6 inch barrel. Remington pump action 12 gauge.

My .22LR Ruger American Rimfire will get all the small game I need.

12Ga Mossberg and 4" 686 Plus for pests.

A photo from my Alaska camping trip to set the mood.

I see your a Mainer. Coincidentally, we drove to AK around this time of year, after finishing a contract at BIW in Bath ME. Drove to Idaho and turned right. Came back on the ferry. Great trip.

If you were in Bath during the summer you may have seen me piloting my charter fishing boat down the Kennebec river.
Not a bad way to spend the summer months.
Alaska is our final trip after next spring. Going back out west to see the six states we missed on the last trip. Then 2023 will be The big trip.

Ooh, great question! Here's what I'd pull from my safe.

A scattergun for wing shooting seems logical, so I'd bring my Remington VersaMax in 12 gauge. I'd pack a box of Remington Hypersonic slugs and a box of HeviX or BlackCloud shells; whatever I happen to have on hand at the time.

For a handgun, it'd be my Nighthawk Trooper 1911 in 9mm. It's a full government-sized rig, which means the 9mm rounds will develop decent velocity. I'd probably pack 40 rounds of Federal HST.

For a rifle, it'd be my AR-10, and however much Remington CoreLokt .308 I can fit into the ammo can.

Marlin 1895 Guide Gun 60 rounds 405 grain hard cast 2100 fps!
Savage 24C 22/20 60 rounds of 4's 200 rounds of Mini-Mags.
Rugar Vaquero 5.5" 50 rounds 250gr rnfp 1000fps

If room permits more 20 gauge including slugs and 22's!

This is about a standard camping load out except for I normally have 200 45-70, 500 20 gauge (for Sporting Clays) and about 1000 22's for plinking!

Tough choice, given what I own, but for sure my M1A for a rifle capable of big game; most likely my Mossberg 500 12 gauge for a shotgun and my 6" M57 for daily carry while in the woods so Yogi doesn't have me for a picnic snack. Load-out would be 100 rounds of .308 158 grain soft points, 50 .41M 210 grain JHP, and stuff the rest of the can with 00 Buckshot and #7-1/2 in equal measures.

I'm a long way from Alaska being down here in "The Great Southern Land". Well if it's Guns I already own it would have to be:-

1. 12g Remington 870
2. .22lr Ruger 96/22
3. .44 mag S&W 629

No idea for ammo.

Sounds lovely and tranquil. :) We'll have to go out with you next time and see that gorgeous coast line from a boat.
The only time we managed to get on the river was whitewater rafting it from The Forks.

We were contracted there in 1988, working 6 days a week at the yard, on the Arleigh Burke. Rented 254 Centre St. and walked to work.
