That's alot of ammo! Here in the not so great state of Maryland the State Police would be knocking down my door for having that much ammo!

Thats not all I have. I have never purchased more than two at a time though.

I've been buying for over two years in anticipation of the day the Feds start regulating, taxing…..

I want to get out to the range today but relatives are coming for a visit……..

1. If you plan on putting several rounds down range, buy quality ammo. This rifle does not like cheap or dirty ammo and gets dirty quickly when using cheap ammo.

3. As with any mass production firearm, this rifle will benefit from a through cleaning and oiling before being put into use. Don't skip this step!

4. This rifle can be very accurate if you take the time to set it up correctly. The use of a bench rest helps tremendously and with some patience, you can create consistent tight groupings.

The 15-22 uses a blow back action....very common in semi-auto .22 caliber rifles. While it will get dirty using cheap ammo, I've not found any clean burning .22LR ammo, regardless of the price. The last couple of boxes of Eley and Fiocchi match ammo I shot seemed to dirty things up just as much as the cheap stuff. It's the nature of the blow back design.

I agree....clean the firearm before using it. As for it being mass produced or custom built, I wouldn't take a new firearm to the range without first giving it a good cleaning.

It sounds as though you did very well at the range. Post up a few pics of the targets and share them with everyone. There are a couple of threads in the forum for posting the targets....in fact, there are even a couple of targets to download and print. Using those makes it easy to compare groups. Shooting those targets at the suggested distances makes it even easier.

My shooting buddy and I both bought one today. We each put 100 rounds through them within the first hour of ownership. Had four stovepipes in mine and he had about the same. We finally determined it was how we were holding the guns by gripping the magwell. Was causing interference with the function of the magazine. Adjusted hold to forend and problem ceased. Plan to run a box of WW bulk ammo through it tomorrow and will count total malfuntions and report after.

So far I'm satisfied.

I took mine for it's usual Sunday morning at the range. This is the 4th range trip with it and I went through over 200 rounds of Federal Value Pack. Zero malfunctions.

I was still trying to get the red dot and iron sights to co-witness with each other. Shooting at 50', at a target with nine 1.5" bulls I managed to keep 95% of the rounds in the black. This is from a bench with a bi-pod. Several 5 round strings were about .5". At this distance my old eyes see the 1.5" bull as a fuzzy blur. Yes I know, without photos it never happened.

The bi-pod I purchased from CAA worked out well with the legs extended about 2" (8-12"range).

I continue to get good performance from my 15-22 with a round count now over 500.

I'm hopefully beyond the extractor problems but had half a dozen magazine caused stoppages yesterday. 300 rounds (two times each thru six magazines). Glad to be shooting .22LR at 3¢ rather than M855 Ball at this week's price of 48¢ !

I've got a bunch of Winchester 38gr HPs so shot 200 of that.

Round count is ~700. Extractor count is +1. (I may have to find a spare extractor, detent, and spring if I lose the new one)

Went out today and put another 600 rounds into the berm. I fired 75 rounds of Federal Auto-Match with zero problems. 75 rounds of Federal Lightning with zero problems. The rest were Federal 550. Near the end I started having some problems I attribute to the fact it was really getting cruddy. Overall I remember two rounds jammed in the mag and 4 crushed rounds, the rest of the minor problems were a few fail to eject, a few fail to fire.
I got the Barska sighted in tight. It worked real well. We were hitting 4" computer hard drive disks and skeet at 25-50-75 and 100 yards consistently. I know the accuracy would be better if I could resist the urge to always squeeze off two or three rounds each time…….

Put another 300 rounds of Fed. 550 bulk stuff through mine this afternoon. Only problems occurred when trying to load the magazine to full capacity. As long as I put in 24 rounds or less, zero problems. When I tried to load 25 it'd stovepipe everytime. Accuracy is more than acceptable. Was able to keep 5 shots in a quarters size circle at 50 feet offhand using an Aimpoint. Had no problem hitting pieces of broken clay pigeons out to 50 yrds. So far so good. Pretty well satisfied and it's no doubt the funnest gun I've ever owned.

2nd trip to range with M&P 22lr

Took family to outdoor range in mountains on vacation (Moss Knob in North Carolina Mountains). We all travel with and take our M&P 15 22lr's on vacation right?

Put about 100 rounds federal bulk down range with no problems; it was very cold however and did not shoot long.

It was nice that the wife went with and enjoyed shooting a few down range. Tried to teach 2 of my kids (son and daughter) to shoot one round at at time but they did not really get into it. For them, I was using CCI longs with low powder which were very quiet and worked fine but did not cycle the action (I had read they would not).

I think the M&P is a hard 1st gun to learn on for six year olds (they are 2 of triplets as my other daughter stayed home with grandma as wants nothing to do with shooting yet). Maybe in another year. No worries as this gun is plenty fun for daddy to shoot!

Anyway, just wanted to share that have had no problems as of yet and really do enjoy this rifle.

ps.....today, only did 10 rounds in mags at a time. Don't know if that helps or not but have never done full 25.

Purchased mine mid Dec and experienced the same ejection and extraction problems. Sent it FedEx on the Dec 21 tracked it to a delivery truck in Chicopee MA on the 28th. That's where it sit today!???

I shot about 150 rounds of Winchester Xpert HV without any problems. I had one FTF (probably a dead round. primer was struck). Rifle is a lot of fun, hopefully everyone get theirs in order.

I just have to load 24 rounds or less in the mag, with 25 in the mag the first round will stand straight up and not feed. I attribute this to a spring tension mag issue and not the gun. So far I'm quite impressed and enjoyed the gun immensely!

to me i personally would love to have a magazine that wasn't so "cheap feelin"?......im like ...man this is the heart of the rifle...and its plastic!.....maybe there will be metal ones in the future?....especially since i think we're all experiencing the same issues...with the first round standing at attention and stove pipeing?......i have to admit...i was kinda leary pullin on a bent round!...even a 22....stupid sh&t happens!...an the last thing i need is to come home with a chunk of my thumb missing....the wife will go balistic!........

The 15-22 mag is like an armor plated tank compared to my AR mags.

For me it was always and only the top round when the mag was loaded to full capacity of 25 rounds. Loaded with only 24 it would not have any issues. So the mag loading lesson has not a thing to do with this issue.

This survey looks like it is going in the right direction for 15-22 owners. My last range visit was without incident.

It appears that the extractor is the weak link. I would hope by now S&W has resolved that issue and those needing repair are receiving a permenent fix.

is FTE failure to eject or extract? are most of the issues extraction or ejection?

FTE = Failure to Eject. On the 15-22 ejection has been the common problem and adjusting the ejector is the common fix. Some folks like myself had ejector problems which led to loosing the extractor. My guess is some of the rounds are not ejecting clear and end up forcing the extractor off somehow.
