Looks like my no-clean experiment will be cut short.

I was doing an informal experiment of not cleaning the Sigma until it had a stoppage.

I was up to somewhere around 250 rounds.

But yesterday I had it in the pocket of some cargo shorts with a round of snakeshot up the pipe while we were running a brush pile through the chipper-shredder.

It is now covered with sawdust and dirt the chipper threw around.

A detailed cleaning will be required. Especially since it got into the heavy teflon lube I'm using to help slick up the trigger.

Come on man,Just shoot it like that and see how it does.

The Sigma is pretty tough, but sawdust might be a little too much for it. Although, if it's pine or cedar it will have a nice fresh scent when you shoot it:).

Blow it out with compressed air and give it a try. If you want a torture test give it a test.

I'm just a poor unedumacated TexMex bumpkin from South Texas, and I couldn't afford me no expensive gun, so I got a sigma.

And that little bitty hard earned money that I spent on it went to feed an American family up in the north east. I return, they made me a gun that works every time, no matter what! Come to think of it, I got me the same amazing deal from them there Americans out west, when I bought my Rugers too.

40 years of shootin them cheap, crumby Smiths and Rugers and ain't not a one of em failed me yet!

Thats why my semi-autos are Glocks, and a Colt 1911. They work, no matter what.

That only works if you can shoot them, and I've never been able to shoot a Glock. It doesn't matter if they shoot or not if you don't hit where you aim.

I will agree on the Colt 1911, although I've never thought of them being particularly tough.

Just got back from the range. Fired 200 rounds with my Sigma and my groups were tighter and once again, Zero FTF.(11,500 rounds total) There were about 10 different other types of guns there ( Sig p250,glock17,3 1911's, Beretta storm, etc) and all had at least 1 FTF in half the rounds I shot.

OP, Shoot the gun. It WILL fire. But what do I know, I'm a Sigma owner.

I've got a Sigma, a Glock and a 1911.
The 1911 doesn't see a lot of use, but the Glock and Sigma both do, and I gotta say, I really like both.;)
I shoot the Sigma a little more, 9mm is way cheaper than .357 sig, and some days I shoot better with the Sigma and some days I do better with the Glock.
Never had a failure with the Sigma, and the only Glock failures I've had were ammo related. (It doesn't like Ultramax)
Both are good guns but the Sigma does fit my hand better.
I couldn't say one was better than the other, it comes down to personal taste, cost and how it feels in your hand.

isn't ultramax ammo lead reloads? Thoughs will blow up you glock. You can't shoot lead in there barrels.

I'm a Sigma owner and "fan"-- but you have a valid point and it was unfair to label you as a troll for this comment.

ScottJ was engaged in a "no clean test" with his Sigma. He got sawdust, dirt on the gun-- then stated "A detailed cleaning will be required." Which to me indicates that he did not have confidence that the Sigma would function reliably. It really does not matter that the Sigma probably would function just fine-- he felt " . . . A detailed cleaning will be required." -- he did not trust the Sigma.

I like the feel of the Sigma more than a Glock, and for the money the Sigma is a better value. But there is no question in my mind that if someone were chasing me through the desert where cleaning a weapon was impossible and I could depend only one pistol to defend my life, I'd want a Glock with me . . . Yet for home defense, I depend on the Sigma with total confidence. I don't carry one because I want something smaller.

Wow, didn't think I'd touch off such a debate.

Rick, it wasn't that I thought it wouldn't go bang. It's that I figured the sawdust would be a bit more abusive to the internals than accumulated shooting crud.

My experiment wasn't of the Glock abuse nature where I want to see if it will go bang after being buried in mud (I'm sure it would being such a Glock clone anyway). I was wondering how much shooting gunk would start to give malfunctions.

The good news is that I shook and blew on the innards and got the sawdust out. Haven't had a chance to go shoot it yet but I will soon.

I'm guessing it will function just fine. As has been pointed out before the main components are very similar in configuration and function to the Glock and that design has been very dependable.

Wow. The whole "Glock is better than sigma" thing is always ruffling feathers. Bottom line is that it's all personal preference. If ya wanna Glock, drop your 600 and be happy. If ya want a sigma, drop your 300 or so and be happy...all the "this is better than that" stuff is really nonsense. I KNOW from my personal experience (and I've been doing this for awhile), that the sigma is a reliable, rock solid pistol. It feeds, it ejects, it's accurate enough. I've even put around 350 rounds through it without cleaning one day at the range, 0 jams, 0 stovepipes. Glocks are nice, but to act like the sigma is Chinese "lead filled plastic crap" is ridiculous of some people. In normal handgun range, the sigma will protect your life, from outside 30 yards someone will have to deal with my AR 15 anyways....just saying :-)

100% AGREE! I just don't understand why people try to do the Pepsi challenge with the Sigma. There is nothing in its class. I mean, find me another gun that is: 300 bucks, high cap, pretty light, great pointing, weapon rail, combat accurate, can buy acc.(holsters, lights, lasers, etc,),Zero FTF (at least me).

And I finally got around to shooting it today. Another 50 flawless rounds.

I decided I could stand the crud no longer. Have been cleaning awhile. Now I remember why I usually don't let them go so long.

I did have two rounds not function. I patterned it with Speer snake shot. The first almost ejected but didn't quite make it. I hand cycled the slide and the second didn't even function the action.

Wait... your test lasted only 300 rounds? I think you let it off easy.
