I was driving down the highway a few days ago listening to the radio, when an advertisement for a local gun shop came on, announcing that a new shipment of ex-police S&W revolvers had come in. It wasn't a long drive, so I went over to see what they had. Most police departments have gone to semiautos now, and their old revolvers are normally offered for a good price. Most show some external wear from holsters and such, but have been shot little. This Model 10-6 heavy barrel .38 special locks up like a bank vault on each chamber, with NO rotational wiggle and minimal end play. No gap between crane and frame in front; no wobble on the extractor rod when the cylinder is spun. I suspect the Kansas City Police Department had a good armorer. Chambers and bore are spotless. I cannot see much evidence of firing at all. I estimate the date of manufacture as sometime in 1976. It came with Goodyear stocks, which I immediately replaced with a nice set of smooth targets. The KCPD ownership marks are on the grip frame underneath the grips, done in electric pencil. All in all, I think I got a pretty good utility K-frame revolver from the era of pinned barrels! Whatcha think?

Very nice gun congrats, but only in my dreams would something like that ever happen on any radio station that I've ever listened to maybe I need to come to AZ. Wasnt J&G by any chance?

Wonder if it was KC KS or KC MO PD that had that gun. I have spoked with several retired KC KS officers who IIRC said they carried .357 on the job. With all of 18 rounds on their person for backup lol

Looks really nice to me. I might say it is likely older than the 70's. More like mid 60's.

Very nice.

Your Grand kids can enjoy that one long after you are gone.

I have an identical 10-6 beside me as I type. Mine was owned/carried by a Vermont police officer. I love guns with a history. Congratulations.

Most of my S&W wheelguns are LE trade-ins. I have a 4" M10 heavy barrel like yours, 4" M10 pencil barrel, 6" M10, 4" M65, 4" M64, 3" M13, all LE trade-ins. I've had several others, but they are all traded away now.

A few friends of mine own an LE supply store, and I help them out every chance I get with their trade-ins, and they pay me with guns. That's a deal I couldn't turn down!

What store is that?

A nice find! I have a twin to your's and if it shoot's as nice as mine you will be very happy!

Nice gun! The trade ins are drying up so you were lucky to get that.

I am attracted to S&W ex PD guns as well. Especially if factory marked to that agency.

I've got a M-66 from the Montana Fish & Parks Wardens. Total run was 130 guns. The FWP seal is roll engraved on the sideplate.

If there were ads like that on the radio here I'd sure listen more...

I got a 10-6 like that some years back, and now there are more M&Ps and M10s in the safe than there used to be. In my youth I sneered at them; now I'm getting downright fond of them.

They're a sure cure for Glocks.

Talk about a dream job!

When I started on the job we carried a Victory model that had been nickeled, 6 in the gun, 12 on the belt....
Truth is, I never felt undergunned....
