I was driving down the highway a few days ago listening to the radio, when an advertisement for a local gun shop came on, announcing that a new shipment of ex-police S&W revolvers had come in. It wasn't a long drive, so I went over to see what they had. Most police departments have gone to semiautos now, and their old revolvers are normally offered for a good price. Most show some external wear from holsters and such, but have been shot little. This Model 10-6 heavy barrel .38 special locks up like a bank vault on each chamber, with NO rotational wiggle and minimal end play. No gap between crane and frame in front; no wobble on the extractor rod when the cylinder is spun. I suspect the Kansas City Police Department had a good armorer. Chambers and bore are spotless. I cannot see much evidence of firing at all. I estimate the date of manufacture as sometime in 1976. It came with Goodyear stocks, which I immediately replaced with a nice set of smooth targets. The KCPD ownership marks are on the grip frame underneath the grips, done in electric pencil. All in all, I think I got a pretty good utility K-frame revolver from the era of pinned barrels! Whatcha think?
