Gun Grievances: Things You Just Don't Like

...........if it can be done in a proper spirit, recognizing that there are no right or wrong responses and everything offered is only a matter of opinion and personal tastes.

DING-DING-DING------
We have a winner for "Best Forlorn Hope" this week

One more for the list. While I have had some I never have been sold on various convertable guns. The convertabels. For instance with the ruger single sixs they finaly went to a .223 bore to accomidate 22lr (.222) and .22 mrf. (.224). Neither ia as accurate as it should be. I once owned a .22 ace conversion unit for my .45 auto. The accuracy was bad.

Older Marlin bolt action .22 rifles with the safety that you push forward to put it on safe. Did somebody in tooling misread the blueprint??

Remington .22 ammunition. Total trash.

"Pinto" finishes. Maybe they ran out of parts that match...??

1911 mania ("the best", the "only one", etc.) in general. A good gun but, nostalgia aside, not any better at putting bullets into a target than a LOT of others.

No models among current O/U shotguns by Beretta, Browning, etc. in the $1200-$1800 price range that DON'T have choke tubes. It seems odd that doubles got by perfectly well for hundreds of years without that "innovation"; you DO have two barrels, after all.

People who gotta throw their 2 cents in at gun shows, like when you buy a beat up looking Model 10 and some a@@clown is like "I hope you don't plan to shoot that thing......" brings to mind an old saying, "better to be quiet and be thought a fool, then to speak and remove all doubt" That holster beat dinged up Model 10 will probably outshoot the overpriced, overrated Kimber he bought so people at the range will think he's cool. He's usually the guy wearing camo pants and a "SNIPER- run and you only die tired" t-shirt and never did day 1 in the military.....

That's one of my main peeves, those idiots who have to look over your shoulder and comment on other peoples gun purchase, they'll be like "Wow I haven't seen someone buy a .38 wheelgun in years....." or " A Beretta 92f, I had one that blew up on me back in '92"......one day I'm gonna turn around and punch one of 'em:D

Versus the dislikes posted here...

I LIKE the fact that wheelguns are not as popular as autos now and especially the .38 Special "wheelguns" of Colt and Smith and Wesson.

Either one [K-Frame or Official Police only] can be safely reloaded with a 158 grain bullet to 1,000 fps. A serious load in any situation except maybe for grizzlies and bigger.

I have been buying "old" [but excellent condition] Smith and Colt .38 Specials for several years now and am getting tons of enjoyment out of shooting them.

Back to dislikes.

Spandex on TOO many women of the "wrong size" in New Mexico!!

Someone say that posters on this thread must be 50 and older. Nope, a spry 34 years old here. Who knows what kind of newfangled crap I am going to see come out as long as guns continue to be made.

+1 on the dislike of the Taurus Judge, Public Defender, Circuit Judge etc. I don't care that they sell faster than a flatscreen TV on Black Friday, they have little to no purpose other than to make people look like goobers when carrying these dopey things. But hey, Taurus guns in general are either knock offs of someone else or second rate guns at first rate prices.

Any safety that requires your finger to be inside the trigger guard to use (browning, mini-14).

I have to say I highly disagree with the Mini-14 safety. I think it is one of the best designed safeties for a rifle, your finger does NOT have to be in the trigger guard to put the gun on safe, and when you are ready to take a shot you can turn the safety off from in the trigger-guard and not have reach to another part of the gun if you forget.

m14, mini-14 , garand, all the safety in the trigger guard. i personally like it, now if only the safety on my garand wasnt 100 pounds to push forward causing a single finger to break, i'd like it more.

im not much a fan of glocks, people that are constantly dissing .22LR as a terrible caliber - my friends like to say why buy XXXXX in 22? thats just stupid. Well, if they would ever look and pay attention to ammo prices, they will think less. Expensive ammo sucks too. Sporterizing of classic military stuff ( except mosin nagents since they are all over the place ) I also dislike, but only somewhat, brand junkies. Where you get sooo set in your way a mfg makes things any other way is wrong or stupid. I hate shooting at the conservation department staffed ranges, the officers are there for a reason and do what they should, but they dont need to treat the shoots like they are drill sargents.

Things that are completely pointless, Like AR,s chambered for .410, .223 Derringers to name another. Gun's should be designed with some purpose in mind, other than winning a freak contest.

Know-it-alls at the range.
Know-it-alls everywhere else.
(Thank God I have a job that requires me to keep my mouth shut 40 to 60 hours a week; I'm only a part-time know-it-all.)
"Rare" ~ A perfectly good firearm that has been modified to fit someone's fantasy; now they find out why others don't do those things but they want us to pay for the experience.
"Patina" ~ Rust.

The man who interrupted one of my high runs at straight-rail billiards by inquiring, "How do you know when you're done?"

Safety levers on semi-auto pistols that you must flip UP to disengage! All these years of sweeping the thumb down to disengage a cocked and locked or on safe pistol and now some genius gun designers give us "Safe is down-fire is up".

Guys that are lousy shots telling me how to shoot.

Hunters who are, truth be told, anti-gun for any other reason. They feel no need for anybody to own anything but a lever/ bolt rifle and a pump shotgun.

Morons who destroy shooting ranges-public and private club- by sawing off target backstops with 10,000 rounds of cheap Russian armor piercing ammo. The club then bans ALL semi-autos and I can't shoot my self defense pistols there anymore.

How about a thread about firearms, firearms features, customization, shooting games, or attitudes about firearms/shooting that you just don't like.
Here's mine: guns are the only consumer product where the retail seller can refuse any and all resonsibility for the product immediately after sale.

you: I fired one round and the barrel fell off. I bought it from you yesterday.

SELLER: Not my problem, send it back to the manufacturer at your expense and don't bother me about it.

Try and think of any thing you buy (TV, radio, shoes, clothes, washer, etc) where you would not immediately get your money back or a new replacement if you discovered a major defect that kept the item from operating for it's intended purpose.

Ever wonder why new gun quality is so low? It's because the seller has NO REASON to push back, return defective guns, or demand the gun makers stop sending them defective junk. They get their money regardless, so they don't care.

A classic example of that was Jim Carmichael, the gunwriter who printed that quite succinctly a few years back and suffered severe condemnation for it.

Yep! How about a Cowboy Action shooter, bird-hunter, muzzle-loader, etc., etc., who thinks "assault rifles" should be banned since there's "no use for them in the real world"? Then he stupidly thinks his weapons are going to be safe afterwards.

I've never taken a liking to stainless steel guns unless they have been polished to look like nickel.
Also dislike rubber or plastic grips and guns.
Just from an aesthitic view point. I realize the durability factor, just can't warm up to them.

People who act as if there was something wrong with anyone who back in the day, had the gall to actually use, or heaven forbid modify, an old S&W, Colt, or Winchester. To hear some people talk any firearm over 50 years old should have been purchased and safely stored with its box and all of its accessories for this generation of collectors.

Are you sure you're not thinking of Jim Zumbo? If so, you may want to apologize to Carmichael. :)

For me the things I can warm up to on a handgun are: blued finish, long barrelled & snubby revolvers, and polymer frames.
