M&P-15 22 Accessories

This is a good thread for those new to the 15-22 and wanting to get some ideas/answers about accessories and how they work/fit on the rifle.

The red dot works good in low light, but am thinking about a scope instead,,hard to see the dot for me,,,maybe a scope up to top and laser on bottom rail for night...?

How does the Eley Sport ammo shoot in the 15-22? i can buy it at the Pawn shop cheaper than the Federal bulk at Walmart.,,last bulk at Walmart was $18.00

Here are my plans. Keep in mind that I'm a minimalist and try to keep things in the category of "making the rifle better", and don't subsrcibe to hanging a bunch of crap off my weapons:

0) Free-float the hand guard. I see this as the must-have upgrade because it helps the accuracy of the rifle. It involves buying the conversion barrel nut for $24 (available from someone here), and the Yankee-Hill Machine rifle-length smooth forearm ($120). This forearm is 2-inches longer than the stock handguard, and will therefiore increase the sight radius, making the rifle even more accurate than merely floating the handguard.

1) Magpul CTR stock - because it comes with a handly place to mount a QD sling swivel.

2) Magpul MBUIS flip-up sight set. This allows you to fold the sights down when you're using optics.

3) Primary Arms MicroDot red-dot site ($89). I have one of these on both of my big ARs, and it's a tough, inexpensive little sight.

4) A decent 2-point sling. Hven't made up my mind yet, but I have Magpul MS2's on my big ARs.

Vertical foreward grips can be problematic because they can inadvertantly teach you improper grip technique. In fact, I don't think a .22 rifle needs a forward grip at all because there's no recoil, and therefore holding it on target is much easier than with a bigger-bore weapon.

I think bipods are just silly. Learn to shoot offhand. That's where all the skill is. Anyone can shoot reasonably well from the bench/bipod.

I just bought the 15-22 and I picked up a red dot scope. Is there a way to mount the red-dot but still be able to use the stock sights when needed? I have seen photos where people have the stock sight still on the gun but I don't see how you can make them both (Stock sights and RedDot) usable? Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Most red dot sights come with mounts that elevate the sight above the bore of the rifle so you can "co-witness" with the iron sights. Your best option is to replace the factory sights with flip-up sights. You can spend as little as $90, or as much as $200 on a set of flip-ups. Magpul makes a set (front and rear) of polymer flip-up sights that are about $90. That's what I'm going to get.

I think the 15-22 hand guard is free float since it only touches the barrel at the mounting nut once you remove the end cap piece.

The YHM will certainly look pretty damn sweet and make your 15-22 look more like a 3-gunners setup.

Yeah, I already have one on one of my big ARs, and besides, I can't stand quad-rail forearms.

I was looking at some new iron sights for my 15-22 when my wife came in, rolled her eyes and said, "Your clothes shopping for your gun again?! Isn't it dressed up enough!" Oh how little she knows.

I ordered a Flash Suppressor for my Ruger Mark II. Just for kicks I am going to see if it fits the 15-22 non-threaded barrel. It just slips on the end of the Mark II barrel and snugs down with allen set screws. Never know I might get lucky. I will also check clearance etc...

Just ordered my mp15-22 with threaded barrel and side ordered a can and am lookin for other accessories, but dont kno what and where, this is my first SW,besides the Bodyguard on order, what other bling can i pimp this little plinker with..!!,, thanx

Mil-spec is the smaller standard, so yes the larger commercial stock will fit the smaller mil-spec tubes.

The 15-22 has a mil-spec dimensioned receiver extension.

If you put a commercial-sized stock on your mil-spec sized tube, it will be as ill-fitting as the OEM stock you want to replace.

Thanx,,,Mil-Spec. it is then, anyone have a good lead on place to buy one,,,been bouncin around the internet some, cant stay focused on one item long e'nuf before im onto mags, optics, cans, grips, rails, slings,,,geez,,I gonna have to get a job....

I'd check Craigslist and Backpage in your area for smoeone who might have one to sell. Ebay and Arfcom are also good sites for stocks.
