What brand of lawnmowers are reliable?

I'm trying to decide what is a good push or self propelled lawnmower.
It seems all are made of cheap plastic now, and too damn expensive.

I looked at a Troy Built mower and it seemed ok. Anyone use this brand?
What is your opinion & experience with them??

I had a MTD with a Briggs & Stratton that lasted 20 years...
Somehow I don't think the new mowers will last.

Anybody like the Craftsman brand from Sears ?

I must be old... I don't like things changing all the time....
That's why I still shoot S&W revolvers ... I guess

I had a LawnBoy for a number of years. It was OK, but I didn't like the offset front wheel.

My next mower was a Troy Built self-propelled mulcher. The height adjustment/axle gave up the ghost after one year, the same year the division declared bankruptcy, so I was on my own. I'll never buy another one of their products, ever. If you want it, it's in my garage with the housing laying on the cement. Come and get it.

My current mower is an electric start self-propelled Toro Super Recycler. It wasn't cheap, but it's an excellent mower and I'm very satisfied with it. Going on four years and no problems at all.

Honda and Toro have been the top rated mowers by Consumer Reports for a long time.

All others under the MTD, Murray name you get what you pay for.

Snapper,,,, I love my Snapper and they're still made right here in Georgia!
6speed self propelled, does a great job mulching.
Had a commercial grade many years ago with what they called a pac-n-sac, would pick up the grass and bag at the sametime, then let you know when the bag was full. It was great until the kid hit the sewer pipe with it!
Then I bought a Cub Cadet,,,, worse mower I ever owned.
Went and looked at the Snapper line again and I haven't looked back since.
My second choice would have been a high end Craftsman though, I was somewhat impressed with those.

I've bought three lawnmowers in the last 30 years. I've bought the cheapest 20-22" I could find at the big box stores. The only thing I ever insisted on was a Briggs and Stratton engine. Those buggers are tough. If you change the oil twice a season and sharpen the blade, you're good to go.

The absolutely BEST push mower I ever owned was bought at Sears in 1972.

Called the EAGER ONE (paid $100 for it).....I gave it to a neighbor in 1987 when I moved to a place without a lawn!

That sucker would cut anything...it has one switch...ON/OFF.

Flip the switch to ON, pull the cord ONE TIME. Started first time every time!!!

Now I need a mower again . . . but with 7 acres to keep cut I opted for a 52 inch lawn tractor!!

I have no idea who makes a good one these days. And, the mess of "safety" items on them is enough to drive a sane man crazy!!

Snapper, legendary for reliability here in the South.

Just sold a 25 year old Snapper rider for more than I bought it for 3 years ago. They appreciate better than S&W revolvers!

Toro. I just went thru that decision making process and they were still selling basically the same Toro recycler I bought 8 yrs ago. It was a good one, so I couldn't see changing.

I have a front wheel drive B&S powered 1979 aluminum deck Toro. Still works.

OK I'll be honest, It sat in a friends garage for almost 30 years before I rescued it. He bought it and cut the yard once or twice and parked it. I had to clean the carb. and plug.

What I really really like is it has no safety handle garbage. That's about the same as an internal lock. Just a throttle cable and an engage cable.

I had a 1976 lawnboy that I gave to my mom when I moved. It's still running to this day.

Hard to beat that!

I have a Sears Craftsman with a 6.75 Tecumseh engine. Had it 10 or 12 years now and it has been completely reliable. Would do it again.

Get the Lowe's Troy bilt with the Honda engine. Best $279 you'll spend on a mower. From personalexperience.
