The SD line has been discontinued

Not surprising, to me anyway.

I found it odd that S&W would tweak the Sigma into something that might cut into M&P sales.

It was a bad move from the start S&W tied up their production lines and the SD just were not selling. The SD is just right in the middle of two good pistols I bought one and wasnt impressed personally I like my Sigma better.

and folks doubted me when I advised this a couple of weeks ago. I like mine and will really like it after I tweek the trigger.

The SD is a very fine pistol for the price, but as many people pointed out, was squeezed between the M&P9/40 and the Sigma.

On the other hand, the Sigma could be improved with some aspects of the SD factored into it. Like better sights (a plastic front sight is too fragile and, well, looks cheap). Like a smoother trigger -- much like the SD's trigger.

I've got two SDs (a 9 and a 40) and I don't think I will let them go for a long time.

So from reading the FB posts by S&W Holding Corp I could not but help detect that the person posting knew very little and presumed a whole lot. I am betting he works in either the marketing division or is a hired geek (most likely the latter). Someone in the know would have provided more definitive responses. I am not saying the SD is not out of production but I am saying that guy is not the source I would use to claim validity.

I'll wait for an official announcement, a facebook posting don't equal a concrete source for me.

And all based on a 2012 price list? When is this price list supposed to go into effect? It's getting toward the end of march and they're still using the 2011 price list? Something doesn't add up.

When companies discontinue a firearm they dont exactly throw a parade. If a firearm is discontinued it is most likely because of the fact the product line is not selling well.

Dont believe it give them a call

They may not throw a parade, but they don't keep it a secret either. Especially from their own people. So when someone employed to represent S&W says "Huh, it's not on the list here, could be" he doesn't know squat. He is just guessing, which means the guys in the suits either have not decided or are choosing not to make it public for a reason. It's not the new super secret gun coming out in April, it's a current product.

You may be right on this one as the Ibolt didn't have an official announcement either- I don't think anyway. Can anyone recall how smith and wesson handled the Ibolt being discontintued?

As my curiosity is about as far as it goes I don't think I'll be giving smith and wesson a call. Although I would save some time by just calling instead of trading comments about rumors based on facebook postings. :D

I emailed S&W about my slide lock not staying back. I think I figured it out with a little tab that was bent too far in. Anyway I asked the customer service rep about the SD being discontinued and he said....

"Yes I believe the SDs have been discontinued"

Not concrete but pretty darn close to it. Boo! There goes all of my hopes for aftermarket stuff.

I guess I'm glad I found one new with 4 mags. I have an SD9. paid $300 for it.. Pretty nice gun I thought. I have an M&P 40 along with four PPQ FE's. I really like the Smith and Wesson line. My angle gun is the 442.
I really thought the SD9 would sell well for Smith.

I'm not surprised.... it made no sense really. The SD line was a great gun but it was priced both high/low. It was much more then the Sigma but it was only a couple of bucks cheaper then the M&P. Buyers would walk into a store and see the three guns. Either they'd buy the Sigma and save a ton of cash or they'd spend a few more and get the M&P.

I think what would be far better is if S&W retired the Sigma and replaced it with the SD line. The Sigma is outdated because of it's light rail and the trigger is horrible for modern shooters. New buyers weren't revolver shooters so a trigger that heavy wouldn't appeal to them. The SD had the right look, the right trigger, but the wrong pricing.

I don't own a Sigma or a SD and the only M&P I own is a first year production M&P .45. My other polymer guns are GLOCKs, one H&K USP .40, one Ruger P345, and one FNP-45 USG. I don't see myself owning a SD or Sigma but I really wish that S&W retired the Sigma and had the SD replace it on the market and with a Sigma level price. It would have sold like hot cakes and done well.

The SD just didnt have a chance the price point just didnt make sense. If you want a budget gun pick the Sigma up but if you wanted an upgrade why not toss down a few extra bucks and grab the M&P over the SD
