Any Old Timers Remember The Great "Post Count Flush Job"

I was here then and losing posts count didn't bother me.

I'm still here and still not bothered. Things still keep on rolling along.

It was horrible, disaster, grown men crying, ranting, screaming moaning, some turned to booze others went insane, jumping out of windows(1st floor), we lost a lot that day. We don't speak about it, the pain is too much.

I assume that you are referring to the cancellation of Gilligan's Island, or some equally important cultural calamity, rather than the post-count purge...???

I found the Forum back about 2003, while working in Kosovo. More important, I found an old college buddy, tennexplorer. He and I had lost track of each other.

The Forum helped me keep what little sanity I have left while in K'vo and in Afghanistan.

I think I lost about 2700 posts.

I feel fortunate to be able to read this forum as often as I do. Don't care much about post counts. I'm on an iPod on Tapatalk right now and it doesn't even show post counts.

Several years back, as a self-imposed measure of time management, I stopped posting to the various forums I frequented. Over the years, I would occasionally continue to lurk off and on, but never noticed a change to my post count here because I wasn't posting, and therefore, my stats weren't being displayed.

When I finally decided to break the posting fast, I can recall being taken aback a little bit by the sudden realization that so many hours of effort trying to add value to the collective body of reference material being amassed (in the hope that it would help this forum build membership momentum) were forever lost to an unfortunate error that likely could have been avoided with a little more forethought and consideration of the collective value of the member contributions and the time and effort expended to create meaningful posts. My posts went back to the very beginning of this forum.

I thought it was pretty funny when I started posting again, when a (relative to my join date) newb assumed because my post count was low, that I was new around here and my low post count made my post somehow less important than those coming from members with higher post counts. Many folks commonly overlook join dates because they are focused solely on post count, and a number of newer members here have no clue that there ever was a "post flush".

On any forum there is always going to be a group of post whores that want to spin the meter for whatever measure of greatness they believe a bigger number carries. Those numbers never mattered to me and they still don't. There is a reason several forums don't allow 'lounge' posts to add to the total post count: it's the easiest forum for a post whore to insert count inflating posts. That said, I still don't see the point in differentiating as there are some meaningful conversations that do take place under that heading.

There are too many intangibles and variables to make it easily possible, but I've always thought it would be interesting to add some qualitative measure of a member's posting history. To me, what is said matters far more than how many times someone hits the post button.

I was around and lost posts also, @ 200-300 I think. Oh well.

This is still the best site for learning about guns period.

Have a great weekend guys.

Trying to remember

I've been trying to recall some of the frequent posters screen names here, back before the 'big flush job', but most of them escapes me.

Anyone remember some of the frequent posters screen names from back then that no longer post here? Thanks,

Art

I remember the incident too and know I lost a bunch but dont have a clue to what my count was. About a year or two ago I started saveing some of my BS war story posts. My idea was strictly thinking about saveing some for my daughter and grand daughters as I dont have much else to leave them and due to a very bad divorice I wasnt around my daughter as much as I would have liked. I did just get back last night from a trip visiting them, first time I have seen my grandaughters in about 2 1/2 years. I only saved storys of my experiances, not gun advice etc., just family stuff. I wish I had started much earlier as many were lost. They only go back so far then drop off.

Which time...????

I think I was still banned on one of them...:D

Hey, I remember that..... It seems just like yesterday. (And you know what a hell of a day yesterday was)

I dunno, I think I had a couple or maybe three, thousand when the purge came. It felt nearly as bad as when I lost the key to tighten my roller skates when I was 8 years old. I'll never forget that day. Me and "Lucky" my trusty three legged, one eyed companion of dubious canine origin, walked dejectedly homeward, embittered with the despair of having lost my skate key. The schoolyard roller hockey was never the same after that somehow.

When the depression caused by the notorious "S&W Forum Post Purge Incident" finally subsided, I picked myself up and began to live again, concentrating on the welfare of my fellow displaced S&W FORUM bretheren. Yes brothers and sisters, (drum and tambourine time) that's how the S&W POSTERS ANONYMOUS organization all started. You put one foot forward, one day at a time. It's a simple two step program to move forward, if successful.

If it's a three step program....the foot lands in your mouth!

Can we get it for the new E readers like Kindle and such:D??

Charlies version of Hell I wasn't Anywhere.;);)

I find it amazing that Charlie can remember the details that he does.

When he was in the Navy, he had his initials tattooed on his shoulder. Now the tattoo describes him.

His initials are CRS.

I think that the title should be "I did what?".

Actually Lefty here in my house it's a 6 step program. Must be my fridge and beer cooler is farther away from the computer than at your place...

Drew;

I apologize to the original poster for drifting off the subject, but I need to boost my post count. Ya' know it was a difficult decision deciding. Closer to the desktop computer at home, what about the shop computers or closer to the leather easy chair in the office? That's when I bought my first laptop......very cooler/fridge friendly device. Close to the cooler, fridge and 200 year old antique "adult" beverage cabinet. Unfortunately (maybe not?) it gets no reception in the wine department but usually....neither do I. My only moral flaw, vice and shameless shelter from reality.....and Mrs. Flatfoot.

Man, you gotta' love this place on a Saturday night (Sunday Dawn Patrol) when your an old bugger, but I wish I was going fishing tommorow. Well, here's a gratuitous post to add to my now meager post count since the big flush. Buy bathroom tissue fellers'....your gonna wish you did after November.

Cheers;
Lefty

I was here back then, lost my post count, started from zero again. I don't miss the former owner of this form one bit.

I think the first name was Paul, I wonder where Silver Corvette is? He is one I often wonder about, then more recently Dan, a beekeeper from maybe Oregon or Washington, seems to have vanished too.
When I got here there was much confusion between myself and another Geoff, his user name was GeoffM24, he had a really nice collection of RM's at one point, and created a website about the history of them. Life happens, not always good stuff I am afraid.

Talk about a name from the past...and getting put in the penalty box...yesterday I was walking the aisles at the Dallas Mkt. Hall show and someone called my name. I turned around and there was Many (LA). Most of you old timers will remember his "wheel" of Registered Mags. Hard to forget those! He was visiting a friend here and they just stopped by the show. Had a big grin on his face and looked good. Only had a moment for a brief visit but it was good to see him.

I know that SilverCorvette left NY and moved to upstate SC. Well...everything is upstate from here. He bought his Thompson and an M16. Last I had heard was he was on a 1911 forum. I lost his contact info at some point.
