On Meet the Press today. Diane Feinstein promised to introduce one in the Senate and said one will be introduced in the House, day 1 of the new Congress. So called hi-cap mags and so called assault weapons are the focus. Supposedly all existing guns will be grandfathered. Here it comes.

There would have to be more to the bill than that. The articles a month ago regarding Feinstein's bill stated she was going to plug all the gaps in the first AWB, such as no more parts available, no transfers of ownership ever, and no doubt severe prison terms for any violation of the new bill. She is a liar and a statist of the first order. I don't doubt she will introduce a bill, but it will be much more restrictive than she is letting on.

On Sunday Morning today, there was a lot of the same. I wouldn't count on the "grandfathered" statements. Saying that will keep some of the resistance down, but it will be really easy to change at the last minute, or later.

Without a doubt there will be new restrictions on guns and gun owners. How severe only time will tell. In the words of Rahm Emanuel, “You never let a serious crisis go to waste.”

Introduction of a Bill does not mean passage and the Speaker of the House decides what will introduced in the House, not Witchstein and company.

Of course the usual scum will run up the Hill with their usual stupidity. Whether they get it done or not, is a different matter.

....and let's not forget, Harry Reid fully credits the NRA for being a difference in his getting re-elected.

The gun ban crowd must be doing back flips and handstands now that they have the crisis they have wanted. Twenty dead children, killed by a high powered gun/s wielded by a gun nut....They won't let this horror go unpunished.....If it were proved this nut was a hard core video game addict and got his violent streak from some video game the First Amendment would (and should be protected) but gun!!!!! No lets ban guns and let's not worry that we have a mental health system severely broken, we have a culture of violence system not checked promoted by song, by film, by gaming etc......Let's just ban the object....we gun nuts are to be punished....The least violent people I know are gun owners, but what does fact have to do with emotion?

The thing as gun owners that we need to do, even if you don't own an AR-15, don't like them whatever, is to stand with people who do. I have never owned one (did have an AK once) I was always more into lever actions and such but I have never thought someone who owned or wanted an AR should be kept from them. Because when they get done here they will find something else they don't like, it is a matter of time. The other thing we need to do is make darn sure we let the reps in Congress know the consequences of their vote, no matter the party. We will hold them accountable and toss them out in 2014, and we will not be made the scapegoats here! I say everyone here needs to write or email John Boehner because he is going to be where the buck stops. The Senate is run by Dems, but don't count on the majority in the house here, because the media will guilt the Republicans with iffy records on guns into going their way. Don't think for a second they don't know where the weak links in the chain are.

Good info David, I emailed the Speaker, I agree with your stick together thoughts as well.

Our side of this debate must be careful when taking a position on these issues. It's getting more difficult to simply say "It's our constitutional right, period, end of discussion". Many people are asking why, for instance, can it be easier for almost anyone to own a high powered weapon (think AK, M15, etc) than it is to purchase a car? I've had occasion to wonder this as well at our local range when young people show up to shoot such weapons and have no idea (1) how to sight it in, (2) clean and maintain it, and (3) handle it safely (I've left the range at such times). I support the 2nd A but more restrictions are coming and we need to be able to rebut those who would take away this right. Again, if we simply hide behind the 2nd A that won't be enough. We have numerous amendments to the constitution that have, over the years, seen limitations placed on them. This is no different.

Aloha,

Part of the problem locally is that there are Many gun owners who

do Not belong to the NRA or the local state affiliate.

Seems that they want their cake without working for it.

Maybe the "entitlement" mentality?

If the NRA and local organization had just a small portion of the

gun owners signed up, local anti 2A laws wouldn't exsist.

But, No, they prefer to let the other guy do thier work.

As one of the "other guys" I get real tired of those types.

Yep, I've been known to tell them off.

This is hype, and they doing everything they can to prey on your emotions. Any decisions being talked about right now are not being rationally thought out. Don't buy into all this bs.

That is the point. They will use all the hype and emotions to yet again strip us of more rights. That is what the evil Democrats do. EVERYTIME! They don't care about logic, the Constitution, the courts. All they care about is their power. They will do whatever they must to eliminate any perceived threat to that power. They perceive us as a treat so they will use a tragedy like what happened in Conn. as their tool to gain support from the public to once again take away rights. Of course it has nothing to do with public safety and everything to do with complete Government control.

and every person who drives a car, knows how to do basic maintenance? change the oil, change wipers, change a tire using the factory installed tools? the problem is education. young people are taught everything except what they do daily, like thinking for your self, aspects of driving a car besides putting gas in and turning the key, and gun safety...

I believe we have to do everything we can do to keep our freedom and our rights....let our elected officals know where we stand. There is always a choice and freedom has never been free as many Vets here know. At some point and I hope we never see it, we may have to stand up and put it on the line for freedom one more time. I can only think of germany and what was done to the Jewish people to realize that there are things worse than death that can happen to you. No one can take our guns.....we have to be willing to "give" them up along with our freedom...I have not and will never reach that point. Giving up my guns will never stop what happened at that school and is happening every single day in this country. They fail to mention the millions of crimes that are stopped every year by law abiding citizens and the lives saved by firearms. We need to get the information out there for all to see.

The response we are going to hear to your driving analogy about cars and basic maintenance is that, before driving on our public highways, people are required to demonstrate a knowledge of the rules of the road and an ability to drive in a safe manner (think road and written tests). This, and questions like "who needs an "assault weapon", are the sort of questions we'll be facing in the "court of public opinion", where it's going to play out. I believe the majority of citizens support this right. To do this we'll need to articulate our position in a reasonable and logical manner and not give the opposition the opportunity to label us as "gun nuts", but as mature people concerned for a basic right which benefits us all.

i agree. even before the 90's people have been brainwashed by the corporate media to fear guns. so thats the problem we have in coming to a conclusion to gun violence, is emotion instead of logic...
