Gun ban Bill coming

I hear you all... BUT... overcoming the killing of 20 6 & 7 year old children, each with 2 or 3 rounds in them with an AR knock off with a 30 round mag capacity is a steep hill to climb justifying the need and rights... good luck in the court of reasoning and public acceptance.

We are dealing with a group of people (in congress and elswhere) who are driven purely by ideology; facts be damned. Add the willful ignorance and complacency that abound in this country (witness the last election) and it spells nothing but further restrictions on all of our basic freedoms that aren't in held in favor by those currently in power.

How often do you hear this country referred to as a "Republic" (which was how it was founded) where individual rights are protected instead of a "Democracy" where the majority can willingly trample on the rights of those in the minority?

I believe it was Benjamin Franklin who offered the scenario of a democracy being two wolves and sheep deciding what was for dinner. He contrasted that to a republic, wherein a well armed sheep would be contesting the results of the decision.

This is all so much political posturing. Happens after every multiple shooting. The NRA is 4.3-million-member-strong and has an army of lobbyists on the hill. Feinstein's bill will never get through the Republican-controlled House as submitted. California already has limits on magazines. Illinois has the most restrictive guns laws in the U.S. and Chicago has the highest murder rate. Nobody can make the case that Lanza's killing spree would have been stopped if tougher laws were in place. Criminals operate illegally, don't pay attention to the law. Keep making them and they'll keep breaking them.

Just saw an article showing that Lanza BROKE (violated) 41 LAWS in committing this atrocity.
Those laws really worked out, didn't they?

And the common 'left' thought will be 'let's make some MORE laws...'

I just went to HPs website and "they" took a poll on magazines, assault rifles, etc. They state that according to their polls,America wants stricter laws.Well, being they are a "Liberal" news site, that does not surprise me! Why don't HP do a National poll and post the results? Probably because they won't like the results.

Their(HP) home page is a joke. It's completely dedicated to the "evil guns" and related stories. There could be a ufo landing in their backyard and they wouldn't mention it unless they came with "guns" of some sort.

Joe, THAT'S part of the message we all need to be sending....criminals don't pay attention to the law, more laws won't change this fact, and tougher laws would not have prevented this tragedy.

I have yet to hear one of the pundits advocating more knee-jerk legislation to the killings in CT tell the media that such laws work in Chicago and Washington DC.

Where was the outrage on Saturday morning when we all heard that 10 young people were killed on the mean-streets of Chicago? They have some of the most restrictive firearms laws in the USA and it did nothing to quell the wave of murders on Friday night. Why are the advocates of more control not showing us their shining examples of gun-control success? Gun-free zones around the college-campuses in the Atlanta-area are free reign for the perpetrators of armed robberies and assaults. Why no use of these great inventions in the media for our examples of success?

The deaths of those 10 in Chicago impacted their families' lives just as much as those deaths in CT. Yet, since it occurs with such frequency, they are not even mentioned in any of the media. They did not garner public outcry nor demands for stricter laws. Why not?

Sneaky Buggers...

On Meet the Press today. Diane Feinstein promised to introduce one in the Senate and said one will be introduced in the House, day 1 of the new Congress. So called hi-cap mags and so called assault weapons are the focus. Supposedly all existing guns will be grandfathered. Here it comes.

Mike, I've heard that the definition of "grandfathered" is going to be different this time around. IE: You can keep what you have, but it will not be legal to sell it or pass it on. When you die, it gets turned in for destruction.

I sure hope I heard wrong... Regardless, WE ALL need to unite to kill this coming crock of window dressing ...

If you are not a member of the NRA, please join.

If you have let your membership lapse for any reason, please renew.

NO COMPROMISE is the only "reasonable compromise".

That is the point. They will use all the hype and emotions to yet again strip us of more rights. That is what the evil Democrats do. EVERYTIME! They don't care about logic, the Constitution, the courts. All they care about is their power. They will do whatever they must to eliminate any perceived threat to that power. They perceive us as a treat so they will use a tragedy like what happened in Conn. as their tool to gain support from the public to once again take away rights. Of course it has nothing to do with public safety and everything to do with complete Government control.

So very true! The anti-gunners in my opinion don't really care who or how many get killed. They just use every excuse at hand to push for disarming America. They must disarm us before they can completely control us.

Unfortunately, I don't think enough of our fellow gun owners actually believe this. I truly hope I am wrong but I really don't think I am.

they will grandfather you in, and I do not share your all views of AK/ ARs as being "normal" guns. Personally I blame the kids mother for not having her firearms securely locked up in a safe where her mental ill son could not have access to them. Everyone here knows what assault rifles are capable of and IMO they give the whole gun industry a bad name and when things like this happen loss of life is severe.

If it makes you feel safer to have one of them so be it but there was a reason they were banned originally under Clinton and another reason why they will bring back another assault weapon ban in the near future. I am not interested in a debate over what a gun is and what an assault rifle is. The forefathers who wrote the right to bear arms never had access to those type of weapons and can not nor could not envision what the affects of them are. I do not own nor want to own a M16 based weapon.

Maybe they should or could give them class 3 status and people only meeting a higher level of clearance could possess one? Something IMO needs to be done but it should not make criminals out of legal gun owners and their rights under the constitution. If that makes me an anti-gunner to you all then I guess it does but to me assault weapons meet a different level of compliance than say my Winchester .38 Magnum.

It should be 40 million.

Nobody can make the case that Lanza's killing spree would have been stopped if tougher laws were in place.

Lanza had connections to CT and NJ. Both of these states have extremely tough regulations, including prohibitions, particularly on "Assault Weapons"... The argument will be that because surrounding states like VT, NH, ME and PA do not, these weapons are still available in the area... this of course will have NOTHING TO DO with what happened in Newtown where Lanza stole his guns from the very woman he killed first...

TROLL ALERT!

IT WAS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME...

A Fine Element Analysis of your statements make me wonder if you are trying to 'change the tone' here?

You display an uncanny lack of understanding of this issue and history.

You need to flush out your headgear or go on back under the bridge...

NO COMPROMISE IS THE ONLY REASONABLE COMPROMISE.

I'll second you on your analysis Drew. The lack of knowledge and knee "jerkism" on his post is amazing.

we you and everyone must change, regardless of what your feelings are. I do not share your fanatical passion for your beloved assault weapons. Compromise will be done and like it or not it is coming.......

listening to Obama right this second live and it sure does sound like ban pretty much from my ears!!!

First of all, they are not "Assault Weapons" They are semi-automatic firearms, like many others.

You can hold your breath and cheer for it all you want, but I would not hold my breath, if I were you.

Let me guess, you know zip about them, never shot one and have no conception of their use?

Finally, let me guess, you think if we do this, we'll "have peace in our time", right Mr. Chamberlin/Appeaser?

Your lack of spine in standing up for the Constitution is amazing.

Yeah! This falls into the "conspiracy theory" catagory which a lot of folks don't believe. I am one who does. All it takes is a little research on history and the push for a new one world order.
