Shield - Why so few being delivered

I gave up after over five months of waiting with a deposit at a local gun store. I bought a different brand and have been very happy with my decision.

I will pick my 9mm Shield on Tuesday. Paid $420 for it. It was ordered mid summer. The LGSs in my area have bare shelves, little ammo, few guns. It has been that way for months. So it is not just Shields. I probably could have bought my Shield on line, but I prefer to make my LGS happy because he takes care of me. He just sold me a case of 9mm for $30 off his asking price.

I asked my LGS to get me a Shield 9 mm just after New Years. Picked it up 2 weeks later. Paid MSRP.

Availability at the dealer is probably dependent on supply through the distributor. Most distributor orders for last year were probably established at the 2012 Shotshow.

I also read that S&W thought they had a 3 month supply of Shields at release but demand was much higher than anticipated.

Congrats to S&W on their success with this pistol. There are many good quality 9mm subcompact pistols on the market. I chose the Shield because I liked my other M&Ps. And I found it very comfortable.

I hope that they can get their production ramped up and take advantage of the demand before the XDS becomes the next big thing and everyone forgets about the Shield.

And then the people who can't find an xds will get tired of waiting, and buy a shield. I must be lucky, I had my shield within a week of deciding it was what I wanted, and passed one up at $499. I have seen a couple in the area since, and I hardly ever go to gun shops...too tempting

I was at my lgs yesterday they just got 8 in 9mm only I bought two paid $400 each, been waiting 8 months for them.

Did the same last winter before shot show. Read some great reviews and told my LGS to get me one as soon as they could. Had mine last April when they first came out.Glad I did. I like the M&P line and wasn't worried about a new model coming out and bugs. I've had zero issues with it.

Ive been wanting one since released but if i dont have one before xds9 comes out no more shield for me:(

Been looking at the sig 938 since i could not get shields

Be Patient..
... The Shield better wow me on the range, the trigger doesnt impress me so far.

I'm finding the trigger is requiring me to adjust. Not easy for an old guy to adjust quickly, but I suppose I'll eventually get used to it.
