Hi everybody- long time lurker, first time poster :) I picked up my MOE last week, and have spent the last 7 days agonizing over where to put my forward grips. I originally bought a GRG Grip Pod knock-off. (I wasn't sure I would like the pop-out bipod style and went the cheap route first, judge me if you will!) Then, after looking at EVERY post on the 15-22 picture thread, I picked up an AFG2.
So here's where I could use some seasoned input: I like the stability the GripPod wannabe provides for accurate plinking, and also enjoy the feel of the AFG2 as far forward as it can go. Is it ridiculous to keep the AFG2 set up far-forward and then mount the GripPod behind it, as needed? I'm trying to avoid looking like a tenderfoot at the range when I pull my new baby out! Thanks for the input, this forum has already cost me hundreds of dollars in accessories! :D

So you really want to have a vertical grip AND an angled grip on the same gun?

If you were down here I'd say don't use the vertical grip & prop your gun on a feed sack.

If you are going to put an AFG2 on the rifle and want a bipod too, trash the Grippod idea and buy a REAL bipod. Personally I like Harris, but there are some cheaper alternatives.

I keep a Harris in my range bag but would never keep it on the gun. But seriously, I like a feed sack better.

No, not both mounts full time. Now that I've used the afg2, the grippod had lost a bit of it's luster. I was just thinking for the occasional use at my indoor range. Thanks for the help :)

Maybe I'm rude, but if ever saw anyone with both on the same gun, you would be hearing some snickering. :D

But I'm sure the Major would leave the range if I showed up with a feed sack over my shoulder.

I knew you guys would be honest! I figured it wouldn't look right, but I'm new to this style of gun. Shotguns and pistols are my previous experience. I appreciate the input.

It's your gun, do what makes you happy. Not what someone else tells you to do. I have seen some in the pictures thread with BOTH on here, and there is nothing wrong with that, if that is what you like. Customize it like YOU want. ;)

Nah. The feed sack is a good idea. Now a potato sack is another matter. :D

I actually see the VFG and AFG setup a bit on both the 15-22 and .223 siblings. Don't understand it myself either but whatever works....

I really prefer my AFG1 all the way forward on the bottom rail, but have moved it to the back of the rail to make space for when I want to use the bipod. It's not a huge difference but the far forward mounting is a bit better spot for stability for me (although far back is supposed to be slightly faster for quick transitions).

I love my Harris BRM-S w/ QD mount personally. My friend has a Gripod knockoff on his 10/22 and it is all kinds of wobbly when using as a bipod and seems really long when serving as foregrip.

long version - people have different body builds. I am on the short side and prefer my AFG2 near the back. someone with longer arms may want it up farther towards the muzzle.
short version - put it where you want, its your rifle!:)

I use the AFG2 and have it mounted almost to the end of the rail. I know that I've read it somewhere that this is a baaaad thing, but I use the magazine as a unipod, and I've had zero malfunctions. It helps me keep 10 shots within 3/4" at 25 yards.
