There looking for the glock used by the NFL Player accused of murder. They say he dumped the glock in a lake in Bristol,ct. There not sure the metal dectors used by divers will pick it up. As of early this morning no glock found yet. They did say the only thing metal is the barrel.(news)

I know nothing about the plastic handguns

Shades of the '80s. When Glocks were first introduced the media was full of "PLASTIC PISTOLS CAN'T BE DETECTED...!!!" etc etc.

Bullpucky. They're all metal except for the frame & maybe a few bits inside.

The blast of free publicity is probably one reason they became so popular. Nothing like brand recognition and everybody knew what a Glock was.

I see the media is just as ill informed as ever...

I see they watched Die Hard prior to reporting. And they are wrong again. The barrel is actually a white straw tube with red stripes. They kind that are used in the highly illegal large capacity NYC sodas. The stripe doubles as rifling to give the gun lazer beam like accuracy.

I know if I were a reporter I'd watch mid 80s to early 90s one man army action flicks to get the technical data and specs on somethimg Im about to report on.

Only the frame and a few small parts (trigger, mag release...) are "plastic"

A metal detector will pick up a coin so 16-18 ounces of Glock metal shouldn't be problem.

A metal detector will pick up a prehistoric pull tab buried in the ground. I guess if they have one of the $79 detectors they could have a problem.

Get a bigger magnet. And especially watch out for Rule3"s above comment. Don't want any catfish hurt by an AD!! :)

I saw a talk show the other night about the thirty arrests of NFL players since the Super Bowl. About the Glock, I can add naught. Regards

"Luggage? That punk pulled a Glock 7 on me. You know what that is? It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. It doesn't show up on your airport X-ray machines here and it costs more than what you make in a month!"

Great comedy. Joe

I saw that movie, Die Hard II, at a drive-in with Missus P&R Fan. When I heard that I yelled "Bull*@#!" out the window really loudly.

I have, somewhere, a copy of the American Rifleman from the mid '80s. It shows a picture on the cover of a Glock 17 going through a metal detector. Very clearly, it is a handgun.
Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed back then.
Jim
