Had this happen on my Kahr PM9 - used it as an excuse to install XS Big Dots - couldn't be happier.

Call S&W get a new site install it and put it in classified adds here and then order a glock

The right rear insert fell out of my MP40 before I made it to the range. I'd have just fixed it but had another issue that required it to be sent back.
A big +1 on that. With the cost of firearms today, there is no reason to tolerate poor QC like that. Send it back... Send it back... Send it back... and get something extra in return for your troubles.
Glad I found this thread. Took my shield out a few weeks ago for first time (fired case date June 2013) and on the FIRST shot, pop, what the hell? Front site dot popped out. I've had many guns over 10 years and have never seen this happen so it caught me by surprise. Gonna try the Testors enamel paint as suggested in a previous post. Anyone know if the paint needs to be coated with anything to protect it from Hoppes 9 or other cleaning solvents?
I did email S&W and they said send it in or repaint it yourself. I said I wanted to send it in and they said they'd send me a shipping label. That was 3 weeks ago and have yet to get a label, even asked for an update last week and they said the same thing, they'll send a label. I think the recent recall will have them swamped for some time so gonna just fix it myself. Besides, if this is still happening on guns made in summer 2013, then I'm certain the replacement will eventually pop out as well.

Degrease the spot well let dry then use the best nail polish or sight paint you can find.. Apply with a round toothpick for control.. Did this to my colt 1911 20 years ago with white nail polish and it's still holding up fine still nice and bright too... George
I was on the range last weekend and I found thousands of these missing white dots on the ground!!!
What a find as these are getting to be very rare and hard to find. not easy to pick up either....
I will be putting an ad in the classified section real soon. One of these dots MIGHT be yours....if you can identify it, I will simply give it back to you and you can send it back to S&W for them to re-install..

PS. Whatever happened to being self-sufficient especially on tiny minor problems that take almost 30 second to rectify yourself and not be without your sidearm?

My M&P 40C was supposed to come with Trijicon night sights but was shipped without them. I used Glow-On phosphorescent paint (Glow-On) after giving the sights a good alcohol cleaning & a clear fingernail polish sealant. So far so good. The glow lasts long enough so when I wake up in the middle of the night I can still see them - better than without any glow at all like the original factory sights would be. A 5 second exposure to an LED flashlight will make them really bright. If they stop glowing they won't be much different than without any glow paint at all. I haven't put enough rounds through the gun with the Glow-On applied to say it'll last forever but I'm getting more confidence with each shot.

Turns out that I took your advice...literally. I had to send it back THREE times. I decided I'd let S&W fix the white dot just so it might help add to the data in the system that they have some crappy paint, poor degreasing, whatever, going on and maybe this will put some better QC on their radar.
Anyway, I send it back, it's gone for a month and then it's returned to me with a blank work order and still no front sight dot.
I email them, they send another label, I send it out again. A month later, it comes back with a blank work order again and STILL no white dot in the front sight!
At this point, it's now a matter of principle to have them fix the sight paint after this got to a comical level of disorder at the S&W warranty shop. I then called them and the rep told me to tape a piece of paper on the box in big bold letters "FRONT SIGHT DOT FIX".
So third times a charm, got it back after 3 months and finally have a white dot in there. I guess it got to them each time, an employee looked at the trigger safety, thought "looks good to me" and threw it back in the box and shipped it out.
Obviously if it pops out again, I'm not sending it to S&W and will go ahead and get the paint or nail polish to fix it. They seem to be a complete mess up there!
I had this happen with my first M&P. I just used some white model paint and a toothpick to fix it.

I'm a little surprised by all the angst over a spot of paint. Really?? I've seen this happen on several different brands of firearms over the years. Clean the recess with some alcohol, a dab of paint and good to go.
I certainly wouldn't send my gun off for weeks or months at a time for something I can quickly fix myself.

How does it work in a indoor range? If I used the red paint on my front sight would it show up better than the normal white dot?

Mine fell out of my M&P9FS I wrote Smith & Wesson an email about and included my address and they sent me a new sight. I still have it because I put on a set of Williams fire sights instead. Love them sights

It is really sad there are so many people who think they are skilled enough to own and shoot firearms but do not have the skill to place a drop of model paint in a front site. They will spend $500.00 on a great pistol and cry because they have to spend a dollar on paint.

Although some lack the ability, I don't think the point of this thread is an issue of owner painting skills.
It is more an issue that after paying the $$$ for a great pistol something as simple as a dot of paint can't be properly applied by S&W. I mean how hard is it? This isn't happening with one or two batches, but it seems like the norm with M&P sights.
They could save money if they would just leave the sights bare and include a "paint kit" with several color options since we have to paint them anyway. That way they could turn this lemon into lemon aid by offering owners multiple "color options" in their sights.

The rear dots on my Shield popped out at the 285 round mark and the front is loose ready to go. I called CS and basically got the attitude of "deal with it". This ticked me off and let the Rep. know I was not happy. He finally said just paint them or if it really bothers me that much to send the gun in. I asked if he could send me out some new sights so if the paint job didn't come out too good I could replace the sights, he agreed to send some new sights, that was about a month ago and they still have not shone up. On the other hand new sights are basically worthless to me considering the sights are installed using a jack hammer. I went ahead and used some light green nail polish, it serves the purpose. Come on S&W, get with it!
Aha... But does S&W actually make their own sights, or do they use a Vendor? This is something I've asked in multiple Sight Dot threads and have yet to see an answer.
If S&W does, in fact make their own sights, then yeah... Why can't they do a better job on that particular production line? If though, S&W gets their sights from a vendor, should we expect them to QC every single set before installing them?
This is not an issue isolated to S&W. Forums are FULL of Sight Dot complaints about almost every Brand out there... XD, Beretta, Ruger, Glock, etc.
