I bought this NAA 22mag brand new. It's an early model without the cylinder cuts they added later so as to carry 5 rounds safely. I treat mine as a 4 shot and never carry a round under the hammer.

Alpo, I too have an ADC just like yours except that mine is in .38 sp. I have shot my mod. 60 with +P and my AMT Backup 45acp & they both hurt my hand a-plenty! I can't imagine firing an ADC in 45acp!

I was thinking about getting a Bond Arms.
I'd like to have .45 only in a 3 1/2" barrel.

Was told.. in a .45/.410 a .454 Casual and S&W .460 would chamber!!?

But would you really want to pull the trigger on any of those.... a second time?

Years back I had an American Derringer Co one in 38 Special. Ended up going to bunny fart loads to keep the pain level down to tolerable.

I don't know...I can't see carrying something almost as large and heavy as a J-frame or sub-compact pistol, and harder to control or shoot accurately, that only holds two rounds.

But I admit to being old and set in my revolver ways.

I quite agree. I have a long response, on another board, to someone that wanted to carry a derringer for self defense.





Basically, what I said boiled down to what you said. 642 is the same size, easier to carry, much easier to shoot, and holds five instead of two. Derringers are toys.

And when they are BIG BORE, as mine is, you load 'em waaaaaaay light. I think I've fire THREE factory 230 hardballs in it. That was enough.

Yes, I had one, High Standard DM 101, .22 MRF but the folks who seem to fancy other people's stuff came and got it without letting me know they were coming. No photo, sorry and sorry its gone too!

Here's a pic of my Bond .38/.357. I mainly shoot .38 Specials through the thing because shooting .357's is the equivalent of getting your fingers slammed in your car's trunk.

Like shouldazagged and Alpo said, there are definitely a lot better "carry" pieces out there. But derringers are in a class of their own. It's called the "novelty" category. They're fun to pull out at the range and have everybody "ooh", "ah" and chuckle over them. And, of course, almost everybody wants to shoot it once. Like I said, they're a novelty. Everyone should own one just for the fun of it.

well, in canada short barrels are prohibited so a 4 1/4" barrel is as short as is allowed. that makes the bond arms a little more attractive.
i also bought it because, although id never held one before let alone shot one, i had always wanted one.
they are bigger and heavier than i expected
im confident that i can use it for a while and sell it. for what i paid, or trade it for something else if i dont like it...
all of my guns are toys, or at least tools that i play with

Yeah, that's why I got mine - because I'd always wanted one.

Just remember that trying to hold it and shoot it like a normal gun gives you nothing to hang on to.



Put that index finger alongside the barrel



and pull the trigger with your bird finger.



It sits much lower in the hand, you have more control over it, and the second finger is normally stronger than the index finger, which is a plus since most derringers seem to have 30-pound pulls.

Putting that index finger up there like that LOOKS dangerous, but try it with an unloaded COCKED gun. As far back as the hammer reaches, there is no way you can get your finger in front of the muzzle.

Unless you're one of them pro-basketball players that can palm a basketball.

Seems the first thing always said about the derringer is it's not a "defense" type pistol. As we all know, any pistol can be used to defend, with some better than others and all situation being different. A guy did use a Bond Arms derringer to kill a carjacker with one shot, hit him in the head area with .410/buckshot.

They did change the hammer on the Bond by making the spur wider for your thumb. Also they changed the trigger design to lighten the pull.

Bond makes some great products. I have no need or spare funds for a derringer, but if I did go that route, Bond has a wide selection.
