I have a 629 44 mag cylinder that I would like to use for a custom project in the next couple of months. If I have the appropriate extractor, is there any good reason this is not doable provided the smith has the appropriate machinery and skill?

Thx!

Well, glad to hear it's doable.

Steelslayer, you had your's cut to do from 45ACP to LC? Any loss in accuracy in having the cylinder throated so deep with the 45ACP?

you are gonna have to get the proper barrel or have the existing one bored out and rifled to 45 caliber. We have one guy who is what I consider an experimenter. Loves the 44mag cartridge. Shows up at the range with a freshly barreled 44maggie. Barrel diameter about 1.250 and cut for the exractor rod. Weight of the revolver is considerably higher that any know stock model. Frank

Diagonal Road Gun Shop 440-458-4369. My 25-2 had the oversize cylinder throats that really kill accuracy with cast bullets and I really wanted a .45 Colt so I bought a .44 magnum cylinder on gunbroker and took the parts over to Andy. He shortened the forcing cone end of the barrel to fit the longer cylinder and recut the forcing cone. Also reamed the cylinder to .45 Colt specs and now I have the gun I wanted. The bluing was even a good match so no expense there. I'm very pleased with the results.
