Let's do a thread about Mickey D's. Let's talk about the weird things you have seen in some of them.
For example, in the 'where to retire thread', Sedona, Arizona came up.
Sedona is an absolutely beautiful place known for it arts, crafts, and new age Happenings.
Yes they have a McDonald there. I Was over there a couple weeks ago. It's kind of hard to find cause it's not very well marked. It's got a very small Golden arch.
Correction, it does not have a golden arch.
Its the only McDonald's in the world that a blue turquoise arch. I told you Sedona was different!

I drove past what I'd always thought was one of the busiest McDonalds in town, yesterday. Wasn't a soul there. Closed sign. Golden Arches had been taken down.

I wonder if the actual burgers they serve are all the same nationwide. I've stopped at some going on a cross country trip and never really noticed a difference. I did get something extra once with a cinnamon bun. There was a very large dead cockroach in the container. Luckily I saw the beast before I ate any. The McDonalds in question gave me a refund and offered free food but, needless to say, I stayed away from McDonalds for a while. In my opinion, Wendy's is a small step up and, if you want something better go to a Five Guys or Freddies for really good fast food burgers.

McDonalds overall income and profit are both up. That's mainly due to sales outside the USA. USA sales are up but profit is down. They are getting beat to death in the ongoing fast food price war started several years ago. Food cost is high and the menu is getting too big.

They are successful right now due to strong foreign sales.

USA franchisees are not happy with the current forced remodels. They are all being told they need to go to one of the several new layouts no matter how old the current layout is. At a cost of $100,000+ per store.

There is no love among the owners for the high cocktail tables that supposedly seat two people. Mickey d's is not a bar and will never be a "night spot" except in a few inner city locations. Those tables are too small for people to really eat and they take up as much floor space as a real table. Plus parents with kids hate them. Try putting your kid on a seat 4' off the floor and hope they don't fall.

Ever expanding menus and the attempt to become a coffee-house atmosphere is killing them. The playgrounds are being eliminated.
It's kinda weird. They are trying to become a Wendy's in some ways; more adult oriented and wanting nighttime business.

Here's a trivia question for you. Is there a McDonalds in the United States that serves alcohol?
I'll provide the answer to this in awhile if no one knows.
Jim

Another McDonald's trivia question.
Have you ever seen a pay telephone in a Mickey D's?
I can remember only ever seeing one.
On I -40 somewhere in Arkansas.

It's weird that this thread pops up right now.

My folks were just telling me that their local McDs charges a "tax" if you eat inside the restaurant. I was like, "What? That's about the craziest thing I've heard of!" Sure enough, on the receipt, 61 cent "dine-in" tax.

Time to tell ol Ronald to "cram it"!

I was sitting at my table in a Taco Bell in San Jose, looking out the window at the drive-thru lane. I saw a blur of something moving very quickly toward the building and heard a "thump" on the other side of the wall near my feet. I continued to look out and saw a cat (the blur I had just seen) carrying off a very large rat. Needless to say I didn't eat there again; no telling where that rat had been.

I have not eaten in a fast food joint in about 5 years. Last time I did I was stranded in Elkridge MD and starving. The only thing within walking distance was a Mcdonald. Before that the last time I ate at a fast food restaurant was probably 5 years prior to that

I kinda wish they would become more of a coffee house/adult oriented. As it is now I wouldn't take my kids there if it were the last place to eat on earth. What these places (BK, Wendy's, Mcdonalds, KFC, Taco Bell) pass of for food I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

That's a State tax law, McDonald's has no choice but to charge it. :( It's not their fault, several States have that same kind of law.

I used to eat their salads. Not lately, they're putting arugula in them. Can't stand the taste. Now I have to go to the supermarket and make my own.

Back in the early 90's I was in Germany and went to a McDonalds in Munich. There I found that they served beer, it's cheaper than soda and the drinking age was 16....:p

I tried the beer (bier) at McDonald's in Augsburg, just didn't seem right drinking it out of a wax paper McD's cup. (not very good bier either IMO) but the "viertel pfunder" was good (quarter pounder)
