Which K frame? Model 19 vs 66

is he/ she Blue???:D I have a 19-4 transitional model everything but the pinned barrel year 1980. It gets all the attention at the range plus its a hell of a nice gun.

The older blued S&Ws are truly beautiful and I really prefer them, but I appreciate the stainless models for durability of finish. About 4 years ago, I started searching for a P&R, blued, 2 1/2" model 19 to go with the 686 I had. Since that time I have bought, a 4" M19-3 and M10-5, a 66-5, a 66-2, and a Combat Masterpiece from 1953 in very nice condition, and I am currently working on deals for a 2" M 10 and M64. The best part, I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND THE M 19 I WAS LOOKING FOR!

So I guess my response to the OP is, buy both!

19 vs 66

Well, I have both. I really appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of the earlier S&W revolvers. I have a 66 P&R 2.5 inch and a 19 P&R 2.5 inch. While I have other L and N frame snub nosed S&W's, these two really possess the balance and smoothness that I enjoy the most. If I had to whittle down my collection to one gun, the 2.5 inch model 66 would be probably be the last one. I have an old 27-2 3.5 inch, and I do believe I like the feel of the 19-3 better. Naturally, the robust characteristics of the N frame guns are points to consider - but that's not what we're talking about here. As pointed out, the 66 would make the finer field piece of the two. Setting on your end table, next to your easy-chair in the evening, the beauty of the 19-3 will be of some comfort :-) Certainly a case for both....

I have both and if it came down to it my nickel 19 would be last to go. I find them hard to find with a 66 much easier to come across.
My vote is buy the 19 and then a 66 later. With proper care you can carry the 19 and shoot it without much harm although cleanup will be a bit harder than a 66.

I have had both 19's and 66's. prefer the looks of the 19's but was always having to be careful with the finish. So I added a couple of 66's to the mix. no more worrying about the finish and they shoot as well as the 19's.
just depends on what your wants and needs are. both are top tier guns.

I would vote for the one you will actually shoot. After all that is what they were made for.

Here's my 19-4. The grips are from a 66-1 that is my dad's. This particular gun had black synthetics originally that I still have.

Hey, I would love to see some photos of your 19 and 66 (2.5"). It was a hard choice. I chose the 19 because I really needed a blued gun in my collection and this thing is a beauty. Nickel, SS is my first choice but this one may have swayed my opinion on that subject.

I got a 2.5" 66-1.
It was for sale at the right price for the right condition.
A 19 2.5" wasn't locally a available at the time.
Still want a 19.
