Back off the beach of Okinawa on the USS Yolo this date 1945:

May 9, 1945

...The weather is good; indeed, it is a perfect spring night. A terrific bombardment began this evening. At 2100 the call to GQ came with radar reporting a bogey at 12 miles. The area cleared out by 2155; many contacts were picked up at 40 miles. This night two destroyer escorts, the England (DE 635) and the Oberrender (DE 344), were hit by suiciders with 43 dead and 80 wounded. Yontan was again bombed. Six enemy were downed. Hecklers remained in the area until 2200. As the hours pass at GQ, the men's eyes become heavy and sleep overtakes some. Even though the ship is covered by smoke the men are apprehensive about a bogey until it disappears.

In late May of 1944 USS England (DE-635) sunk six enemy submarines in a period of just 12 days, a feat that has never been surpassed. She continued to serve in World War II until during the battle of Okinawa she was hit by a Kamikaze and was undergoing repairs when the war ended.

At 1707, the kamikaze slammed into the aft deck-park.

The bomb detonated on the midline of the armoured flight deck, a few feet aft of the previous impact point (4 May 1945 kamikaze hit).

It was assessed to be a 500lb weapon or similar-sized modified shell. It appeared to only partially detonate in the impact.

Looking up the word kamikaze in Wikipedia, there is an explanation of the British carrier flight decks being made of metal rather than wood as were the US carriers. The metal flight decks resisted damage better than the wood flight decks. Per the Wikipedia article the British carriers were able be field repaired and resume flight duties in a short period of time. The US carriers had to return to various harbors including the west coast of the US for repairs and rebuilding. There is also reference to the fact that the US was no longer training new pilots to go to combat in anticipation of the war ending. Presumably this was because of the monetary war debt magnitude. For whatever reason I have never heard any of these critical facts concerning WW II. Thanks for the stories concerning this period of the history of the war. Makes much more sense of the decision to use the atomic weapons to end the war. Even though that decision is now criticized by those who might not even be here on earth if the atomic weapons had not been used to end the military fanaticism of Japan.

Good morning all. I just went outside to check weather conditions and a classic Houston sultry pre-summer morning is upon us. It's about 74 degrees, 94% humidity, and what little breeze there is is coming from the south. (Summer mornings are 75 to 80 with little breeze coming from the southeast.) Besides the standard list of hordes to be alert for on my walk this morning, I'll keep an eye out for swarms of emu size mosquitoes and giant mold men. Ah yes, to sweat and for it not to evaporate. People that do not exercise outdoors wonder why I try to get my exercise and chores done early in the day. The secret is I go inside where it is air conditioned when it gets hot. Each of you have a great day!

Brad, my undoing is your doing.

I have spent my life expanding my repertoire. I could recall thousands of songs and passages and play them from memory.

Depending on my mood I could summon a song from my synaptic archives to fit that mood.

No more!

A Trojan earworm has been imbeded in my ROM drive.

Every attempt to circumvent or remove said file only causes it to be opened and played.

I am doomed.

Thank you Mr. Trololo!

Never my intent to bring a good man down.
I should have had an inkling of what I may have released upon an unsuspecting public when I experienced a faux petit mal episode upon viewing.
You may find a bit of comfort upon hearing the man has left this mortal coil and understanding when you read of the reason of the way he sang the lyrics.
