Good Morning!

Had pretty good storm last night for about two hours. Luckily nothing but heavy rain and a pretty darn good lightning show. Our local news showed a few flooded roadways and a couple of trees down. Nothing major and no deaths.

So just another LAZY day for me, today. I got a ton of stuff done yesterday, I had a doctors appointment and went and did a little shopping! so I may not even put on any pants today?

I saw on the news about the Mid West tornadoes. I hope all our Mid West brothers and sisters are OK? It looked HORRIBLE on the news. Bless their hearts!

So PLEASE be safe today! Stay Healthy!

Please remember what Memorial Day is really about.

Please say a special Prayer for the victims of the tornadoes. And if you see a tornado, turn your damn camera off and run the opposite way! Not towards it, just hoping your recording will go viral on YouTube!

Perusing the internet this morning and I ran across a quote that is very thought provoking to me! 😓

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C.S. Lewis

Another C.S. Lewis quote,
" These then are the two points that I wanted to make. First, that human beings, all over the earth, have this curious idea that they ought to behave in a certain way, and cannot really get rid of it. Secondly, that they do not in fact behave in that way. They know the Law of Nature; they break it. These two facts are the foundation of all clear thinking about ourselves and the universe we live in."

I think that I need to go to gocomics and read how Calvin and Hobbes, and others are doing today. Get some humor and good thoughts back in my head ! Clouds are not just in the sky! 😛

BCC, twenty four year relationships are a rarity these days, especially with a feline friend. Some people might say "It was just a cat!" These are the people I really feel sorrow for, in that they don't know the depth of a relationship that is possible with a furry friend. Hang in there sir, & condolences to you & yours.

We had to put our 24-year old cat down this morning. He was the last of the three we adopted as 1-year olds. He was a great pet.

I'm so sorry for your loss, BCC. Those little furry guys really work their way into our hearts.

Some days I feel like I'm running a geriatric pet facility, and am not looking forward to the time when mine have had enough fun here.

My oldest, Boosty Collins, just turned 20 last week. I would be happy with 20 more, as unrealistic an expectation as that is.

Good on you for taking 'em in.

Sun's shining this morning. These warm sunny days are a very welcome change from all those dreary rainy days we were having.
Supposed to get up near 90 degrees today.

snubbyfan, I hate to disagree with you even partially! Sun is nice after days of dreary!
75° here with 72% humidity, and a forecast high of 80° or possibly higher, and to my estimation that is perfect! I know you prefer higher temps and humidity but guess that is what makes the world go round.

"Sometimes I'm right and I can be wrong
My own beliefs are in my song
The butcher, the banker, the drummer and then
Makes no difference what group I'm in
I am everyday people, yeah yeah
There is a blue one who can't accept the green one
For living with a fat one trying to be a skinny one
And different strokes for different folks
And so on and so on and scooby dooby doo..."

My condolences. That's not something I'd want to go through.
We both feel kinda guilty about Zachary because we just couldn't leave him alone. Trips to the vet., shoving medicine, vitamins and high calorie food paste down his throat.
I think he just wanted to die peacefully and we just wouldn't let him go.
Finally, after we came home from the Y one day, I reached down to pet him and found that he found the peace he was looking for.

Yeah, we got the girls but there'll never be a cool cat like our Zachary.

Just back from taking the horses to pasture. They are happy!!!! 😊
Some rain but the storm split and went around us. Radar is now showing it remaining split, and to the east and west by a large margin, so to the pasture!
Sunshine until the heat drives the moisture to form dark clouds and the storms form in the afternoon, at least that is the theory I hear! Official prognostication is 50% chance of T storms through the remainder of today, 40 % tomorrow, sunny Sunday, and 40% chance on Monday. Local town has a lot of kids baseball games scheduled, and the community pool opened, so the weather has a real chance to put a damper on being outdoors! 😒

Guess this leaves more time to refect on why there is a Memorial Day holiday, and to thank those who served in defense of our country, and even more so on those who made the ultimate sacrifice!!!!!

Like I tell people, my skin ain't this color 'cause I'm a cold weather person.

May 27, 1945

...Bad weather continues but the wind diminished. By nightfall the weather cleared and the call to GQ came early. It was picket station 5, bearing 43 miles due east of Yolo that was attacked. The two duty destroyers there were crashed by kamikazes. Braine (DD 630) suffered heavy losses, Anthony (DD 515) was fortunate; she escaped with a near miss. Some 25 raids con¬sisting of 50 planes attacked. By 2400 the last of the raids disappeared but we remained at battle stations.

On 27 May 1945, the destroyer was hit in quick succession by two suicide planes. The first hit forward seriously damaged the bridge, and the second hit amidships blew number two funnel overboard and demolished the amidships superstructure. Braine retired to Kerama Retto, Ryukyu Islands, for emergency repairs; departed 19 June; and arrived in the United States 19 July 1945.

"Damage sustained by the USS Braine (DD-630) after being attacked on 27 May. The first two kamikazes hit between mount 52 and the forward face of her bridge, blowing out the mount's gun house and leaving the damage to the two 40 mm mounts just aft seen here. The second kamikaze hit at the base of her second funnel, blowing it overboard. Fires raged at the site of both crashes. It was noon before the fires were contained and she could be towed to safety"

USS Anthony (DD 515)

On 27 May 1945, kamikazes attacked Anthony and her sister ship Braine (DD-630). When two succeeded in crashing into Braine, Anthony took all survivors on board and towed the damaged vessel to Kerama Retto.
