I've been late all day and really did not have anything scheduled. When I got back from my morning walk I started reading ahead in Homer's Diary of his time on the USS Yolo. There are some good entries coming. I'll keep doing the this date postings until they head to Leyte. After that I'll post a few select entries at the war's end as one or two posts not coinciding with this date in 2016.
Now back to Homer Bast C.O. USS Yolo, off the invasion beaches of Okinawa.
June 13, 1945
No alerts this day or night. Possibly the B-29 raids against Kyushu have brought about this lull. TF 38 continues its daily raids. The boys want to build a projection booth so that break-outs will not interfere with their movies. A booth would help the sound as well. It is all right with me. Sitting on the bridge waiting for GQ, I see the flashes, the smoke and flame from the land bombardment. While no raids were identified, ground fighting goes on. Rumors persist, so the signalmen tell me, that the fighter pilots say the war will be over in August.
