Now many of us on this forum are fans of the Western movie genre and spend lots of time watching our favorites and commenting on them.

But let's face it, there are a lot of bad westerns out there, either because of bad acting or usually because the story was just...dumb.

I saw one the other day, "Doc". It was a re-telling of the Wyatt Earp - Doc Holliday story. Now Stacy Keach (Doc) is a good actor and Harris Yulin (Wyatt) is okay, but the way this story is put together it makes the absolute least of their respective talents. Supposedly it tells the story from Doc's point of view (which is okay in itself) but it might as well been taken from a Stuart Lake book for all of the lack of any sort of accuracy. Much of the action did involve real events but only as a way to make Doc look good and Wyatt look bad.

For one thing Doc, from all I have ever read, was no sensitive, romantic soul. The romance between him and Kate Elder, while touching in the movie, almost certainly did not occur as portrayed.

Wyatt was certainly somewhat calculating in his political affairs but to think that Ike Clanton could best him in a fistfight is a bit beyond imagination.

And the final shootout at the OK Corral is better left undiscussed. The only reality in this fight was that it happened - just not anyway near how it is portrayed.

Suffice to say I did not care for the movie. The only redeeming factor in watching it is that I will now not be tempted EVER AGAIN to watch it.

So what about you guys, what western made your "Awful" list?

I have to say this one more than qualifies! Best bet only Ringo will remember it!:D

Dirty Dingus Magee

Its a anti-western starring Frank Sinatra as the title outlaw and George Kennedy as a sheriff. Its based on the novel The Ballad of Dingus Magee and the screenplay was partly written by Joseph Heller.
FWIW, Mr Heller must have been desperate way back when!

You're right. All of those make the "Leaves-much-to-be-desired" list, but the all time stinker award, in my opinion, goes to "Terror of Tiny Town."

Of course, the guy who had the Shetland pony concession probably made more money on this one film than he did in his long career of running the pony rides at the local carnival. I mean, where else could you ever find that many little pony saddles?:D

Hadnt heard of this one but, here are a few I cant stand:
Shane
Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.
Dances With Weasels (Wolves).

Ill stop there for now.

"Dead in Tombstone"

Absolutly waste of time, i can not understand why Danny Trejo did this.
Two cool custom handguns

That sudenly turned into two S&W 686 (or Rossi revolvers)?=
In a western? Come on...

I have nothing against Trejo-but never have seen him in anything he was good in. I remember one of those stupid Halloween movies-and Predator movies he was in--glad he was killed in both.

There are too many to mention, but the most recent abomination was the remake of #3:10 to Yuma." That will tell you how long it's been since I watched a western, 2007. The Christian Bale character is a wounded Civil War vet that can hardly walk in the opening sequences, but towards the end he is jumping from rooftop to rooftop. Another minor actor is shot in the belly but is back in the fight in a few days. The west was home to war veterans and tough men and women. But many westerns have the characters going all girly when the bad guys show up. Just choot 'em!

I barely remember it, but it caused me nightmares till things were made right-by watching a few good westerns.:D

Another bad bad BAD BAD BAD western that comes to mind is: A Town Called Hell. Starred: Henry Fonda and Aldo Ray. Did I say that was a bad western? If not--that western sucked prune pits and really stank.:)

I'm thinkin' back a ways but I can recall one western that was so bad I squirmed with embarrassment for almost every one in it.

Flaming Star with Elvis Presley. His performance was so bad he should have been banned from ever even WATCHING another movie let alone star in one. But his performance wasn't the only problem. The director should have been hung by the thumbs for his "work" and who ever did the screen play should have had his hands chopped off.

There were 2 bright spots in that stinker and they almost made it worth watching. The performances of John McIntire and Katy Jurado were stellar, and those two always were.

Good "bad" one. That reminds me of another: The Outlaw. The
only good thing about it was (Jane.):D
