Hickock 45

History is full of people who turned a hobby into an occupation. If you want one very notable example read up on the early history of Henry Ford. He started out building a automobile in his garage because he wanted to have one and wasn't wealthy enough to purchase what was currently available. BTW, Henry kept that thought in mind when he started cranking out the Model T and was such a success because instead of making automobiles for the wealthy he made automobiles for everyone who had employment.

Point being that "playing in their backyard" can at times lead to a history changing invention or idea". If you want more examples Newton and Einstein come to mind pretty quickly.

Granted Hickok isn't an Einstein but he is entertaining and many of his reviews do have a real value for those looking to explore a new area of firearms. I'll also note that the early S&W semi's are a total PITA to field strip and re-assemble. Which is why I prefer Sig Sauer's pistols over the S&W semi's.

I had zero problems field stripping my issued model 39.

I stated that he was entertainment, AFAIK he is not building firearms, or cars. Plus I did acknowledge I would upset some of his fans.

Guess my main compliment with his review was the fact that he never tried the Smith automatics ever and a ton of other guns are hea

I do not think of hickock45 as an expert, rather as a gun enthousiast, and I do like his channel. Harsh on the 4006??? I really disagree. the most negative he found to say was the gun's weight, (and it is true with todays standards), though he notes that tames recoil because of that. Also speaks of its 11 shot magazine not being up to par with modern offerings, and again he is right. He points out that it is well made, and he shoots the darn thing pretty good for something that he does not like! Also, kudos to him for having the b#lls to admit that it is his "mental block" (his words in the video 28:14) that did not try one of these all these years. And just for the record, I met lots of people back in the day, who for some allien and paradox reason had seperated pistols to colt, and revolvers to s&w, and would not change their mentality even if hell froze over!! Also, he bashes his favorite glock in the video for not having a straight backstrap. As for harsh, I should make a review and give my opinion of glocks and all the other plastic **** out there that followed. "Plastic pistols! The only good thing about them, is by throwing them in the campfire, soon and easily you make them disappear from the face of the earth, making this a beautiful planet all over again!" The End! Hahahahaha!!! That, my friends would be harsh!!! :-)

He is a youtube expert, firearms his how he makes money off of viewers. Without youtube, he like a lot of other youtube experts would be looking for jobs.

I know this is going to upset his followers, but his opinion is worth what you pay for it. It should be considered entertainment, if not entertained by his opinion then don't watch. If you do watch keep in mind this guy makes his spending money playing in his backyard.
I make spending money in my back yard, or patio, making holsters for people. It's kind of fun and relaxing. Here's my "shop" below. Do people subscribe to Hickok45 paying him money? I just watch it for free and consider it entertainment where you can also learn stuff from. He sure enjoys himself and if he can make $ doing that, that's great. He seems to get tons of ammo for free. I'd love that. And I wish people would pay to watch me make holsters but that would be pretty boring.

There are youtube experts that give advice on making holsters, as well as reviews on holsters. I guess I upset yet another Hickok fan, I personally have nothing against him, but he is an entertainer. I would not buy a gun on any youtube expert advice, nor a holster. In fact being the owner of two serpa holsters I actually ignore the tacticool youtube crowd advice.

Here's a tidbit for you....those older Smith autos are not everyone's favorite. I honestly dont like them at all. Back in the day when they were on the store shelves, they sat right next to much cheaper Rugers, much better Sig P series...and the new "plastic" guns that none of us were all that sure of (Glock). They were heavy, have terrible first shot double action triggers, and everytime I picked one up...the grip felt so dumb and cheap...like they cut a bicycle inner tune and stretched it over the grip frame.
Hickok45 gives honest reviews, and he gave HIS review. The man is allowed his opinion. I think he was way too kind. Ya know why those style Smiths are gone, but Sig P series are still around? Because not enough people really wanted them. Law enforcement to this day is still a Glock and Sig world, and there's a reason for it. Again, well made pistols but certainly not the Cadillac of handguns.

Oh snap!

I need to get out and stock up on popcorn for when the crew gets here. :D

Hearns v Hagler redux.:p

Before The Internet,You Tube and maybe PCs what was Hickock 45 doing when 1st,2nd and 3rd generation Smiths were being made?

Pre Polymer were You Tube celebrities of today pushing pencils or a broom someplace?

I'm not upset. It just seemed like you were discounting him a little because he makes money playing in his back yard. Which I guess he does if people subscribe to him. Why do people do that? I see political "vloggers" asking for subscribers. Maybe hickok does too and I didn't notice. I wouldn't buy a gun because he or someone else likes it. You Tube is great, though, for instant instructions like putting up ceiling sheet rock or how to split bricks evenly which I've utilized before.

Like I was said could not believe he had never reviewed a Smith automatic pistols. Most 1911's are as heavy as Smith and a ton of other makes of autos have slide mounted safety such as Beretta 92. I love to watch Hickcock45 and have been looking for one of his reviews for a long time for Smith automatic I was beginning to think that they were to old not that he had no interest in them. I am just disappointed because he didn't like them he would never review them. They have been around for a ?on

Let me list the guns I bought after watching Hickok.
10 mm Glock
629 4"
Marlin 1894
PMR 30
69 2.75"
Oh yes, he can shoot. We have a steel range at the gun club and while I can ring the plates Hickok does it at about 3x my speed. Nevermind the long range handgun shots he can do.

Edit- I have no interest in 1911s or HiPowers.

I know he's always saying great things about Glocks and seems to have every version out there. They might be the greatest defense guns in the world and I wouldn't want one. I just like classic older guns, even if I'm handicapping myself. I do have one S&W auto and have flirted with ideas of selling it to finance another sixgun but don't think I ever will.

I was issued the blue version of the 39, I hated giving that gun back when I quit. As far as the slide safety? It really is not a safety but a decocker, it just happens that the FP must be blocked for it to decock. We carried them with the gun ready to fire, and only used it as a decocker.

Is "Cadillac" here used as possitive or negative means of comparison??? Of course plastic pistols and stamped steel sig p series are still around, because they cost next to nothing to produce, and sell at a premium. Machined smiths cost way more to make, but they were affordable guns. Much smaller profit margin, makes the product unwanted (for manufacture). And lets not forget politics, and the wrong decisions of the British ownership, that had the company drop the 4506 (and many others) and made bicycles and wrenches instead, per Clinton Brady protocol. The other companies played their cards better, not their products. Proof to that? Aren't still LE agencies around the globe with 3rd gems? CHP is just letting go now. :-)

Back in the day when first Police trade in guns hit gun shows and dealers had tables full dirt cheap Smiths I told my son as we walked passed with out slowing down their not 1911's so not interested. Maybe I was kinda like Hickok45 but I was not making gun reviews except to my son

Now you have me curious! How much money does he make? Several thousand dollars a month? $80-90,000 a year? He doesn't have to work anymore because he makes so much money from You Tube reviews?!!:D

Just pulling your leg! How much do you suppose?:)

I came away from his review thinking he found a lot of positives with that gun. He said it was very shootable and well made. He said the sights were dead on. He pointed out how the weight was an advantage in absorbing recoil. He liked the trigger.

And he enjoyed shooting it.

I came away from his review, which I watched before I saw this thread, wanting to buy one!

He honestly said what he used to think about them, and then pointed out the positives. That's how I took it.
